Free or Low Cost Marketing

36 replies
I'm trying to figure out some other areas where I can promote my business online. I am currently paying monthly for advertisement on a website where I'm seeing a nice ROI, but I would like to try other options just in case the well runs dry (I don't prefer to put all of my eggs in one basket).

Besides Facebook, Fiverr, and Google, what are other options for where a Career Services company (Resume, LinkedIn Profiles, etc.) can be advertised/posted to get more exposure + more clients?

    You could try upwork as well as possibly starting a youtube channel providing career tips and advice etc.

    • Your right DaveMartin, you have to use multiple platforms too, you can't just say, i'm only going to advertise on say, twitter. While they are great and actually recommended. You need to advertise on all listings you come across, even various business listings you find on line.

    All you have to do is use Google's search engine and you will find many places to market and advertise online. Below is a list I found on this website.

    https://quickbooks.intuit.com/r/mark...product-today/

    * Sears.com - the famous retail giant offers an online marketplace where you can list your products for sale.

    * Buy.com - an expansive online marketplace that receives a lot of traffic.

    * Newegg.com - the second largest online only retailer in the U.S. now has its own marketplace.

    * Etsy.com - the largest online marketplace for handmade and vintage items.

    * Pricefalls.com - a Dutch auction site that offers a fixed-price marketplace as well.

    * Shoply.com - a free marketplace operating specifically with the small business owner in mind.

    * SOCexchange.com - a fixed fee of $10 a year allows access to list at this marketplace.

    * iOffer.com - a well-traveled commission based marketplace.

    * eCrater.com - a free marketplace that offers customizable online stores to retailers.

    * Bonanza.com*- a sales commission based online marketplace with a social community theme.

    * Blujay.com - a free classified marketplace that allows for unlimited ad postings.

    * ArtFire.com - a free marketplace geared toward sellers of handmade products.

    * Wigix.com - a self-billed online catalog of products that has a marketplace for sellers.

    * Offeritem.com - a free marketplace that provides an online store and shopping cart to sellers.

    *Shophandmade.com - like the name suggests, a marketplace geared toward sellers of handmade items.

    * Zibbet.com - a fixed price marketplace for handmade goods, fine art, vintage items and crafting supplies.

    * 3tailer.com - a marketplace that seeks to connect vendors with buyers in niche markets.

    *Atomicmall.com - a marketplace that has both set price and auction options.

    * Sell.com - a marketplace organized in a classified ad format.

    * Xoole.com - a marketplace focusing on independent sellers.

      I've used google search, I thought I would come to this forum since the members on here have a lot of knowledge about marketing. Many of the links you provided are for physical products. Which is another reason why I didn't want to rely on google alone and figured I would ask the pros on here. Thanks anyway!

        The "pro's" on this forum will not tell you where they are getting their traffic from. Your traffic source is something that you will nurture before it becomes saturated with your competition.

        Find out where your competition is advertising online, and advertise on those websites.

        Traffic sources have to be tested, and split tested regularly, to improve your conversion rates. So just because I am successful using a traffic source to drive traffic to my sales funnels, that doesn't automatically mean that your sales funnel will generate any sales from that same traffic source

        Therefore you have to do your own research regarding where to advertise online, and which traffic source converts best with your offer. Even if the "pro's" told you where to advertise, that traffic source suggested by them, may not convert to any sales for your sales funnels.

        The list I gave was just an example of what's possible when doing a google search..."where to advertise online/digital products online "

        You will only advertise if the traffic source is a good fit for your offer.

        Bing advertising, Pinterest advertising, plenty of fish advertising and niched forum advertising, are alternative places to market your offer online.

        Please do research, or do a course on how to advertise on those advertising platforms effectively, before you invest in an online advertising campaign.

    Chances are your existing clients have friends and colleagues who'd benefit from your services, so offer them an incentive to refer prospects to you. As you're a new business, your customers will be recently recruited, so you should strike while the iron's hot to take advantage of the goodwill. Word of mouth will be an important factor in building your profile.

    Other sources of exposure include job sites, careers information sites, and local schools, colleges and education institutes. And if you adapt your resumes and profiles to suit a specific industry or profession, that opens up any number of promotional opportunities - think profiles for legal professionals, dentists, accountants etc.

    You can try to use also Instagram and Facebook. Moreover there are some website lists where you can add your service and receive some more traffic. One more thing you should learn is SEO, but it's hard to do it just yourself.

    Do small write ups in FB and share with FB groups, which is free of cost. Or you can promote your business thru FB by selecting the locality which will be minimum cost.

  • You really can't go wrong with Facebook and Twitter Pages at first (dont go for paid ads just pages). You should also create a good looking web site with a profile page.

    I also think social media marketing is very powerful right now, so it will be helpful for you. You can also try using influencers to make your services more well-known be sure to the proper research on the influencers before you sponsor them.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11384469].message }}
  • You need to also focus on branding all social media pages and websites the same. That's the most time consuming area, i find.

    Besides the other sources that the others have suggested above, you can try buying advertisements on job portals. LinkedIn also have their ads service where you can advertise (if you are not already doing it)

    Have you tried doing that before and is it working. I tried Facebooks ads and it was a disaster, to be honest. LinkedIn has more filtered audience so it must work very well.

    You can try Quora. Quora is an excellent resource for getting visibility before your business. It's a popular question and answer site that reaches over 200 million visits per month.

    If you want to get your business and service out there, then you need to become an expert answerer in the niche your company specializes in. The simple reason to use this site is to get traffic and leads onto your list.

    Just make sure to optimize your profile and your tagline so that it dovetails perfectly with your niche.

    Make sure that you do the following: Provide a comprehensive About Me section, include all areas of your expertise, list the city you live in (this is important for local marketing), record the schools and colleges attended if applicable, and make sure to link to your other social media accounts.

      Once you have one or more of these going, offer them as a free resource to state employment support sites. (For example, Florida has one called CareerSource). If you can provide them with a reason to list you as a resource, they'll promote for you.
