If you use WordPress, there are lots of plugins help you to build a forum or web community. Like bbPress, BuddyPress, WP Symposium Pro, ... and so on.
Take some time to choose one of it and you will be on your way.

If you want to use forums as a platform to market, then you have to patient with the traffic. Or hire a virtual assistant to help you moderate.

Why not go with FB group? Telegram? Or even WhatsApp group? Start it small and locally?

Look at phpBB Forum. Great solution. The basic script is free, but I loaded about 60 extensions on my last one for a client, about 30 of which were paid. Check it out.

Consider building genuine 1 to 1 friendships too. Some of my buddies who run successful forums did so 1 genuine friendship at a time. They'd promote me, endorse me or invite me to guest post on their site, not asking me for a thing. Then a few months down the road, when they became my friend and launched a forum, I'd write about it on my blog and promote them on social, giving them a member boost, loyal members at that.

You have 3 major options to choose from to create a forum website:

    1. Install a forum software, such as Discourse, on your own server. This may require some technical skill to set up and then maintain the server and database for it as the forum grows.

    2. Use a service, such as a Website Toolbox, to create a forum website. It would not require any servers, software, or coding. It is still completely customizable, matches your domain name, etc.

    3. Use a website platform (content management system), such as WordPress, and then use a forum plugin. The plugin is usually much more basic than options 1 and 2.

Sorry I'm confused, are you making a statement? or are you asking for help?

What exactly are you getting at? You want to create a forum?

phpBB is good for starting forums on a budget. I've started a couple this year. It's got a lot easier to add extensions to it these days. I keep spammers off by banning the posting of links until they've made 5 posts. I also have recaptcha. It seems simple but effective.

WordPress forum plugins suck for the most part, so again dedicated forum software is what you need.

I started one forum from scratch. I found a niche with very few forums, and a few key ones have closed down. I started by adding content I thought people would find interesting. I post using around 10 different accounts. It's worked because I have a bounce rate of <40%.

It's taken a while to attract real posters but after 5 months I've got a top quality regular poster. They've come from a rival website that's been broken for 2 months. That's always a good way to get regular posters!
