I totally understand where your coming from. I posted something similar in another forum. People will say that it's easy, and I'm sure it is for people that have "disposable income" but for folks such as you and myself, it's damn hard.
I'm in the process of doing all I can with what I have and try and make it work.

I definitely haven't niched down enough and I've always been aware of this.

I really enjoy self development (similar to what you suggested above and in the book) and my motto has always been changing health, success and happiness for the better.

Which I guess is another way of saying "I'm covering a bit of everything!!" Which as you point out nobody wants... you lose followers by deviating, and I have been deliberalty deviating for my whole blogging life!!

Thank you for sharing your story with everybody here. I think your thread should serve as a good example of a journey one has to go through on the road to success.

I am sure that a lot of people coming to sites like a warrior forum imagine that success is often achieved overnight. Some may acknowledge the fact that a person has to work hard in order to succeed.

But rarely does anybody fully comprehend how tough it often is. Your thread gives us a glimpse of what tough really means but I am sure how we imagine it is nowhere near how you experience it.

I want to share my story that took me from having absolutely no knowledge in digital marketing to successfully starting and growing a digital marketing company. I hope that you can have a glimpse into what it took for me to get where I wanted to get.

I think I started with similar ambitions, I wanted to learn digital marketing in order to create a secondary income to my primary career. At that time I was starting last semester of nursing school.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) sat me down one day and told me that she is pregnant. You can imagine how quickly my world turned upside down.

After a few days of watching how my life is reshuffling in front of my eyes, I decided that nursing job won't pay for a life that I wanted to provide for my family. It was then that I decided to find a better way to make money. After some research, I settled on SEO.

I spent the next year, or until the birth of my daughter, sometimes sleeping 3-4 hours per night, working full time as a nurse and trying to learn as much as I can about SEO.

About a month after my daughter was born I officially opened my SEO agency.

The next 3 years, however, were a blur of failures and disappointments.

You see, I was continuing to grow my understanding of SEO throughout this time, but because I felt like I wasn't succeeding as fast as I imagined I would, I pursued other online ventures. I ended up disappointing myself even more.

What made that sense of failure and disappointment worse is me constantly thinking that I cannot provide my daughter with the life I wanted her to have. Don't get me wrong, we were not starving or anything, but we definitely lived from paycheck to paycheck.

Things slowly started to change about a year ago when I finally got my first client. One turned into two, and two into three. Fast forward today I can proudly say that I can give my family anything they need and then some.

I thought SEO will allow me to start making some side income within a few months but it took me 3 years to see any profit. The amount of money I spent experimenting with SEO, buying online courses and software, etc. would probably shock me if I saw the total number.

Recently I read a quote that I should have read all those years ago. It said: "Don't compare your chapter 2 to somebody else's chapter 20".

Avoid reading comments on this forum or anywhere else for this matter and think that you can do the same thing if you apply what they tell you. They went through much more, made more mistakes and gained more understanding on the topic.

What I want you, Filterqueen, to take away from this is persistence. If you feel passionate about affiliate sales then stick to it and continue doing so as long as it takes.

The more learn, the more you earn, as Warren Buffet used to say. Continue pushing through and learning more about what you are passionate about.

Don't think about how hard it is to do it while being a mom of two and job that hardly pays the bills. That will only make things harder. Think about where you want to be a year or 5 years from now and let that motivate you.

Afterall, you are not doing it for yourself.

You are taking this pain right now so that your children don't have to.

My sister is selling used clothing (mainly coats and mens' shirts) and shoes on eBay and is crushing it. Shoes, by far are her highest profit margin items. She goes out two days per week to the Salvation Army and Goodwill thrift shops and the occasional church or community yard sale. You have to develop some knowledge about what you are looking it. Last week she picked-up a pair of women's Italian leather boots that retailed for $395, for $10. All they needed was a good polishing. She got $165 for them. This was not the only great find that she has made a ton on.

She's happy as a clam and I'm thinking about getting her to teach me the ropes. lol

She knows the ins and outs of successfully selling on eBay so well, (doing it successfully on a large scale IS a science) that I keep trying to get her to write an eBook. She tells me she's too busy making money from other people's crap. How do you argue with that?

She's had her failures, though. Vintage jewelry was "a bust," as she tells it.

If I were starting over, it give it a shot.

That makes a lot of sense.. a platform with buyers seeking out various items. It makes more sense then building a site and developing targeted traffic to it. At least to start off with.

Thank you for sharing this! I have a lot of used and new never worn items like jackets and shoes. I'll post them on my day off. I realize there's more to it then just posting items but this gives me hope and right now that's everything.

Nothing worth accomplishing is fast, free or easy. I've done online stuff for about 10 years and done very well, and the more I do it, the more I love offline stuff, like direct mail. I'm actually thinking about selling off my websites at some point and just selling stuff through direct mail. It's pretty much a competition free zone compared to direct mail.

We do the best with non chain type thrift stores. I prefer the off the trail church ones. You can talk to their manager and work out a deal with them. We get first dibs at many thrift stores, before things hit the racks, because we have prearranged relationships with them. It's a win-win for them and us, because we buy volume. Just food for thought.

Salvation Army and Goodwill are WAY too expensive, generally speaking. Yes, they still have some deals, but you need to shop around and educate yourself about which thrift stores have the best deals on each type of item.

I would also tell people to specialize if you can. That will shorten your learning curve and you can dominate in a quicker amount of time.

It is definitely possible to make money with affiliate marketing. Many are doing this, including me. But I disagree about posting - IMO you should always get your own hosting and website.

She can do it partime, so telling her not to do it flat out is poor advice.

I work full time and am working on my business partime.

That's how majority of people start out.

It's very rare a person will just up and leave their only income to start a venture full time without any experience or something to fall back on.

To the OP-

Trying and failing a bunch of times holds more value than not doing anything at all.

Not trying is where regret is born and the longer time goes on, the more you'll ask yourself what if...

Devote even as little as 1-2 hours per day to a business partime and you'll see it grow if you put focused attention to it.

Each day I wake up 3 hours before needing to be at work. I work on my craft for an hour after getting ready for the day.

When I get home at 8:30 pm, I eat dinner and work on my craft another 1-2 hours before going to bed.

5 days a week that's 15 hours dedicated to my business.

Weekend time can be unlimited. Easily make it what you want and can do.

Anyone telling you don't do it imo is wrong.

There are multi millionaires that started from far less than what you have, didn't have a clue or the knowledge they have today.

Not even close.

They tapped in to something within themselves and kept fighting no matter how many times they failed.

If you're not failing, you're not succeeding because you're simply not doing anything period.

Yes, it taps a nerve when people tell others not to do something.

That's how dreams are robbed from those who are fearful, doubtful, or just feel lost on how to get started.

Btw OP - if you do get in to affiliate marketing, you can also be on for big stores such as Walmart or amazon etc...

So if that maybe helps you out or makes it less intimidating, use the big brand names to your advantage.

There's so many products and services that offer affiliate opportunities now days it's endless with what you can get in to.

Marketing is simple concept.

Know your market, know what you have to offer, reveal your typical customer, expose their needs, present offer.

Think.. not all TV commercials apply to everyone, but they are presented in a way knowing that those who they are for will see them.

The internet is that very space.

Write something valuable, tell a personal story, make connections and throw a link.

Don't over complicate it.

A way to spend hardly anything..

Use clickbank market place.

Sign up, pick a niche, see the products and filter them by "gravity". You will see products with the highest payout and what the avg price ppl are spending.

Grab a link and promote.

They even give tutorials getting started.

Research to get started but don't get stuck in to doing just that.

Take action.

There are many hundreds of posts to be found on this topic by learning to utilize the 'search' function. Read, learn and then return (by starting your own thread) to ask specific questions.

No one wants to tutor someone who hasn't applied themselves to at least do their own basic research - unless you would like to pay them.

This thread still hasn't been put out of its misery???
