Hi everybody,

I intend to hire someone to program a website to actualize my online startup idea, but I also worry that my ideas will be copied or imitated by others. How to protect the idea in this situation when I have to outsource for the website? Can anyone give me advice?

Thanks

  • You should start of by NOT being afraid! If you have a strong idea that you intend to put some action into people will probably try to copy it if it's a good idea.. Just make a better job at it then everyone else! What niche do you work in?

    • Thanks. I shouldn't worry too much. I'm doing with online marketing niche, bro
  • What Robin said, Fx

Release the fear-worry and proceed. We live in abundance. If you focus 100% on serving folks and building your name and your brand, you literally can never be imitated or copied, and you dissolve these silly fears too.

Do what I do; if you fear anything, remind yourself that fear is not real and tell your mind to shut the hell up LOL

  • Do not worry and carry on. This world has two type of people. The first set of people like to earn money by working for others and the second set of people like to act to materialize their ideas. And the good thing is that they do not interfere in each other's domains. It is a proven fact. So, nothing to worry..

  • If your fear is that the developer will blab, put together a non-disclosure agreement. And, if it is truly revolutionary, patent it.

Of course, if you're worried at this stage, you undoubtedly will be terrified when the website is live and the entire world can see your "idea".

If everyone let the fear of someone stealing their idea paralyze them, we wouldn't have computers or an internet for you to tell us about your fear.

  • Thank you everyone, I received a lot of encouragement. I definitely have to change my mind, this world is very generous and abundant. I should not worry too much. Moreover, the idea is perhaps just a part, passion of dev team and behind work to promote the business is much more important. Of course I will continue to implement the job, but it is better if there is some "tips" to protect my ideas, avoid getting competed too soon.

BTW, I'd like to ask, is it a good choice when I use freelance online services to code the website?

    Thank you.

  • i have been using freelancers for 10 years and not one time was my ideas stolen or sold. especially if the freelancers you hire have high feedback. they will get banned by the freelance site and lose their business.

    • Thanks. I feel much more confident now
  • You can have contracts with them. But those only help a little.

Basically, you just have to go for it and not worry about it.

  • Having your ideas copied is always inevitable in the world of business. What matters is the execution. You have to do better and be one step ahead of the competition (especially since you're the original).

Besides, if someone copies your idea, that means it must be a pretty good one, right?

If you want to hire reliable freelancers, be they from Fiverr, Freelancer, Upwork, Onlinejobsph, etc., make sure they've got high ratings. Price is a secondary concern if its trustworthiness you're after, though getting a bang for the buck is always nice.
