How Do You Get Sales in Affiliate Marketing?

Hi there,

I just recently started affiliate marketing. I did some researches on this field on the ways people generate money from affiliate marketing. One of the ways they mentioned is to use solo ads to drive traffic to your landing page (squeeze page), which is used to collect email from your leads. Then your leads are directed to a thank you page, and then there is a button where your leads can be taken to the sales page of the product you are promoting. They also said that the top 3 niches to promote are MMO, dating, and fitness/ weight loss.

After researching on keyword monthly searches and such, I have chosen MMO for my niche, since it has a high monthly search. I use Clickbank to choose the product I want to promote, since some marketers suggested this. I then started doing the steps laid out exactly as above by other marketers. The inspiration for landing page and thank you page are drawn from other's affiliate marketers ones, with some modifications. I then bought solo ads for 100 visitors to my landing page from udimi.com (as some marketers suggested this). This costs $50 me to get the visitors.

After I got all 120 visitors (with overdelivery), I can see that I have optin rate of 34% (40 visitors), while 29 visitors viewed the thank you page. However, I got no sales with all the visitors. I am not sure where is goes wrong, since I have done exactly as other affiliate marketers said.

If I assume that the visitors size is too small to generate sales, and assuming I need an email list of 1000 subscribers to make decent income, then if we assume $0.50 per visitors for the solo ads and 10% optin rate, I would need to spend $4800 to get my list to 1000, which is bit too much for me. On the other hand, free traffic (SEO, Youtube etc) would take a long time I guess.

For those who managed to generate income from affiliate marketing, my questions are:
1. How do you get visitors when you are starting out?
2. How do you make sales after visitors have optin their emails in your landing page? Do you have a thank you page and a sales page later?
3. What do you do with your email lists when you are starting out? Do you always send out emails that have your affiliate links? Or do you send out emails that provide free contents without any affiliate link? Or do your emails always act as a pre-sell that ultimately build up to a sales day later on?
4. Do you think email size matter? What's the least number of emails that you think is needed to make decent income?
4. How long do you take from starting out to making a decent income now?

Thanks so much for your attention.

This is a very standard set of questions from a 'newbie marketer'. You have obviously put thought and time and a bit of cash into getting started.

But - the mistakes you are making now will follow you and sink your efforts. You are relying far too much on 'what others say'. Unlike many new marketers you have stepped up and DONE something - so I feel you are serious about learning and succeeding in IM.

    Read the thread below:

    https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...money-too.html

Check out the free course offered to members here recently:

    https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...ng-online.html

It is good to listen to advice - but who is the advice coming from? This forum is filled some days with answers people found on quora and posted here as 'the answer'. KNOW who is giving you advice, what their qualifications are (are they successful?) and what they have to gain by sharing with you...

They also said that the top 3 niches to promote are MMO, dating, and fitness/ weight loss.
"They' are quoting the same nonsense repeated over and over on IM forums and in 'training materials'. Those are general categories - not niches.

How are you going to sell MMO products when you don't make money online yourself? That is a basic mistake that will sink your efforts.

Why would you aim for the 'least amount of emails' you can send? A list is valuable - why not have a year's supply of emails to send - with advice, tips, stories, and the promotions that make money for you? Once someone is on our list....it's automatic if you set it up right.

You have a lot of questions - but you have to take them separately and learn each process. There is not quick, easy do this, this and this and pick up the money. It's a process - and you need to understand that process to make it work. Use the forum search to find in depth threads about email practices, advertising, affiliate marketing, etc and ask specific questions when you have them.

    Good luck to you.

      Hi there,

      Thanks for your reply.

The least amount of email, is because I think there a certain minimum email before you can make decent income. Of course I will grow it as large as possible. But just like to seek out opinion on the least amount. Obviously I can't generate any income from my current small list.

How are you going to sell MMO products when you don't make money online yourself? That is a basic mistake that will sink your efforts.
Some people said we doesn't need to be an expert to promote a product, that why I was thinking at first promoting MMO, but I might be wrong. Currently I am testing out and will always pivot if something is certainly not working.

Thanks for the links you have posted. By the way, just wondering how much do you currently generate from affiliate marketing? Or are you working in other fields, like blogging, ecommerce etc.?

The problem with that approach is you might be doing more harm than good. If you want to offer advice based on your own experience, that's all well and good, but if you're going to set yourself up as an authority - and charge for your help - you'd better know what you're talking about. And that doesn't mean just knowing more than someone else (or thinking you do).

You get all that stuff by giving Chu.

    Examples:

    - create videos on YouTube helping folks to MMO
    - create MMO podcasts
    - write helpful MMO blog posts on your self hosted blog
    - Comment on MMO blogs - like John Chow's - to form prospering friendships with folks in the niche

Also...do you feel genuinely passionate about helping folks MMO? Right now you noted your choice based on a monthly search. Not a strong reason buddy, and you need a strong driver to be persistent, through ups and downs.

I am passionate whenever something is in demand, because that's where I know I have the most impact in serving others. That's why I do my research first, then only passionate about that thing. Thing about this, if I am passionate about something no other people are interested in, how can I serve them, and ultimately how can I make money?

    1. Without Buying traffic the best sources are Niche Forums, Quora, Reddit. After these comes Pinterest & Facebook. But the latter ones take a lot of work to set up.
    2. You should set up an autoresponder, which sends emails automatically every X days. You would need to create them. That's a lot of work. In this case it would go well together with a blog. Each blog article could be a new email. In the articles you can link to affiliate offers or your own info products.
    3. You can do as you wish, but trust me: if you'll provide value in your emails you'll get a much better response and higher earnings. Get them to click on your link without selling them anything. Provide them with information, and then sneak some affiliate links in there without actually selling them anything.
    4. Hard to say, but I would guess at least 5000. If you'll have a website on top of that with it's own traffic then you might make a lot more money.
    5. It depends on the strategy. Website/Email list route is long. It's worth it, but you won't get results fast.

Sounds good - but how does he do that when he knows nothing about the subject - hasn't done it himself, etc. Does he copy what someone else says - or make up something and claim he made money doing it...?

Good question - and you won't make money that way. You need a target market to sell to. How do you know others aren't interested? What sort of research did you do?

You do realize that it cost practically nothing to send emails to your list. This is the essence of email marketing, whether you spend hundreds to thousands of dollars building your list, you know that you'll end up making a lot of money from that list.

You'll have the chance to understand what converts as you send your emails. Basically, as you start, instead of worrying about getting sales or not getting sales, focus on getting email subscribers. Right now learn more about Email marketing, it is what you'll use to get the sales you want. The main purpose of solo ads and other form of ads should be to get subscribers.

Before you purchase solo ads. Make sure it is not a bot. Or some one that has built a list and sold the crap out if it. Because he could not sell a bam thing with it. Also ask the seller questions. How was the list built and for what product. He could say. diet but then. ask what diet. Because it is not any good if you get a diet that gives meat and. you are a vegan. So it is just common sense to ask questions. Also when you get a good solo ads vender keep him. Do tests with the smallest amounts that is after you have ask all your questions. How it helps

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers for over 17 years.

However, I do things quite differently than most.

I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them, as they have overall worked the best. They also tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some of the verticals (niches) I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, loans, debt, credit, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

The bulk of the PPL offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I also promote offers that pay more and less. You don't want to get too caught up on what an offer pays because how well it converts is just as important. For example, if you have an offer that pays $9, but if it converts at 2X or more of a $20 offer, then it will perform about the same or possibly better. At the same time, if you have an offer that pays $90 and it converts poorly, it may not even be worth promoting.

I have also done just as good with dating website sign-ups and pretty good with free trial + S/H offers. I also promote a very limited number of offers that are straight sales offers. However, mass appeal needs to exist and I also look for one of the following...

    1) The product is new and/or novel-unique and you can't purchase it locally or even something similar. I don't waste my time with it once it or something similar shows up in Walmart.

    2) The buyer can truly get what is being offered at a decent discount.

    3) Solves a house is on fire type problem.

However, most of the above I will promote on the back-end. Which is why the first thing I look for is mass appeal.

Bottom line, it's far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.

I drive traffic by building responsive email lists using fresh / targeted 3rd party email data and generating real-time, co-reg leads.

3rd party data is email leads of users that have shown an interest in a specific PPL niche or offer and have given permission to receive messages from third parties. You get the opt-in record of each user and it's 100% can-spam compliant.

Co-reg is simply where I place an ad for a specific PPL offer on a co-registration network and their publishers display the offer and users can request more info about it. When a user requests more info their contact info is then automatically imported into my ESP account and they are sent a message regarding the offer. Which I pay on a per lead basis.

So with the above, I am getting fresh / targeted leads specifically for the PPL offers I'm promoting. However, they are not typically as responsive as a high-quality opt-in list that you build yourself. So to compensate for this you need to work with higher volume. This is not a big deal since the cost is much cheaper and highly scalable compared to traditional list building methods.

When mailing, you want to skim off the top any fast-track conversions and then for long-term success, you want to always be collecting your opens / clickers, segmenting and removing unresponsive users...converting the leads from quantity to quality and into responsive lists. Which you can then also cross-promote other offers on the back-end.

So basically I promote PPL offers because they provide the path of least resistance to generating conversions/$$$ and converting the data into cash producing assets.

There's actually more to it than it sounds, but done right it can be extremely profitable. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, for the most part, does 6-7 figures. While that's a huge range, much comes down to one's ability to scale and effectively build / manage the infrastructure needed to scale.

    Something to think about

  • Its a combination of traffic and the copy of your sales page. These two things can fluctuate meaning, if you have little traffic (targeted) than you should have a really good sales page. If you have a lot of traffic, and you have a decent number of conversions, than you don't really have to fix your sales page. It just become a numbers game.

If you have a good amount of traffic than work on your sales page.
If you have little traffic, and some conversions, than work on getting more traffic.

Figure out how to get some conversions and than drive traffic.

It's an on going process and one has to adapt the new ways and learn new ways to keep getting sales. I would mention one important thing and that is uniqueness, select a niche and make a blog on it, provide valuable information and then route them to your affiliate links. Making review videos is also a great way to get started without a website. Buy the product, test it yourself and give your review leaving affiliate link in description of video.

    1. For me, the easiest way is paid traffic.
    2. Well, it depends. Normally people send a series of emails out and after so many they will send an email to try to sell them on a product. You can also send them to an offer via your thank you page when they sign up.
    3. NO! Don't overload them with offers. The idea behind lists is you are trying to offer them value and then slowly pitch them, but you need to show value behind your emails and not just selling.
    4. Yes. I've heard of a "magic number" of at least 500 subscribers

Hi The same problems when I started. To keep it simple I am in affiliate marketing and myself do things different. 1 I find a problem that every one has and then find the product to solve that problem then put it in front of the people. To get my emails open stop selling give advise on how to solve the problem example give. advise on the problem you have then how you solved the problem without giving away the farm. Then say. for more advice click. the link below. Or I find that I do free courses on affiliate marketing how to get started But I put links to products that I need to get started and make sales that way. works very well

Hi I had the same problem but I use a different method remember it is affiliate marketing not affiliate selling. The emails I send out get a good open rate and at first made no sales at all. So I realized it was not the heading but the email. So now I use the pain and solution method in my emails. Tell the pain you are getting then story of the pain then. the solution. works very well

I started over 6 years ago and it took me 14 days to make my firs sale. You need to be on facebook you also need to have a blog on your website put it into a folder call it blog. You need to keep linking back to your facebook page and website and blog. Friend 40 people a day on facebook in what ever you are doing. In no time you will engage with people. To get full time it can take 6 months. a year. or even 2 years. that is how you want to work and what you put into it. Or ir could never happen if you do not know what you are doing. Learn as much as you can. it will come.

It is not the size of your list. It is the quality of the people on your list. If you have 1000 people who joined your list just to get a free product is not as good as. 10 people who join your list for advise and no gift. So you have to target the correct people. Now I have a very small list just over 300 but it makes sales. I also generate people of interest in my niche from facebook and forums. I also push traffic to my blog. So using my small list linked to my facebook page and blog works very well I also push video traffic as well. Hope it helps

The fastest and easiest way is to get connected with a group of people in your niche.

Especially people who want to learn from you and you KNOW you have the knowledge and skills to help them.

Of course that brings to 3 major questions.

    1. Where to find those people and

    2. How to connect with them?

Those are the 2 questions I used to wonder myself as an introvert and I did a lot of research on those.

But whichever the case, do NOT try to sell them stuff straightaway.

Instead introduce yourself and give them a chance to do the same as well and share.

Stay connected, follow up and build rapport with them over time.

And once they liked and trusted you, doing business will be much easier than you think.

you know that you'll end up making a lot of money from that list.
Just because you have a list doesn't mean you will make money. There is a lot more to it than just putting people on a list. There are people who have built large lists and never made a dime in return.

You have to start with targeted leads and have a good conversion system in place. Subscribers are worthless if you can't convert them into buyers and repeat buyers.

If you have a lot of traffic, and you have a decent number of conversions, than you don't really have to fix your sales page. It just become a numbers game.
IMO you should never stop trying to beat your best. You might be one change away from increasing your conversions/profit.

IMHO Don't spend money on website visitors if you're a beginner, but focus on social media instead. Create a decent page or community in your niche and post content that has a value for this audience. Grow it in parallel with your website. And very very soon you will see sales in your account.

Hi first thing do not use solo ads until you understand how to purchase them and what are the quality and solo ads have come from. Make sure the same list has not been sold to 50 others before because you will have no sales at all. I would use facebook to start then twitter. Learn one section of advertising at a time do not jump from one method to another. Understand. one thing first,
