Properly setting up first campaign with current contacts

Hello All,

I am new to this site and just trying to find some direction on how to move forward. I am very new to online marketing of any sorts but I am currently venturing into the world email marketing. I just got done setting up my social media and a website for my paintings. I have a long list of contacts I have developed while doing my day job as an architect. My question is, I want to create a campaign to let people know my gallery website is set up and online and there is a newsletter available to sign up for. I am trying out mail chimp but I am wondering what is the best way to do this?

I thought about creating a personal email that I send to each person letting them know the news of me being a painter and opening up a website gallery. Obviously that takes time but it would be more likely these emails were not spammed and maybe not opened? Or I could continue to import all of my contacts into mail chimp and create something, I am not sure what, to send to these contacts to let them know the same thing. However, would that be more likely to get spammed and unopened? I feel like I get one shot at this so I am trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Basically from my personal experience mailchimp has bad deliverability rates. I would recommend setting up a gsuite and using something like mail shake, Lead Kahuna, lemlist or mix max which is what I am currently using.

That's usually a result of your list, not the deliverability capabilities of the service. They didn't reach their stature in the industry but looking to NOT deliver your mail. Additionally, they hate most marketing emails.

Better to use GetResponse, Aweber, SendLane or other major concerns. Stick with mainstream providers as opposed to services that no one has ever heard of and come and go, continuously.

This can be one of the most important aspects of your online business. Be smart!

Okay, thanks for the response. I guess my question is regardless of the service is this the way to go to introduce my new website and online gallery? I mean, these people on my contact list did not ASK me to send them an introductory email but I don't think they would be offended unless they received countless emails from me without wanting them. My thought is to send them an initial email through one of these services to announce the new site and see if they want to join a newsletter or something. Does this seem okay?

Many of these services won't allow you to add people to the list that you will send from based on them just being a prior 'contact." Aweber will allow you to manually add a certain number per day, but you risk getting complaints and having your account shut down when you mail to them the first time, through Aweber..

The safest way is a short email informing them you are putting out a newsletter and that if they wish to receive it, just click on the link to be subscribed. This is, of course, after you have set-up the subscription script in the backend of your provider.

I did this recently with a 600 name list, 10 at a time through an email service, with no complaints. Just use common sense. Oh - DO remind them that they have had some sort of contact with you in the past. lol

One last thing. Mailing through your business domain server adds more recognizability and credibility to your message.

        Cheers.

Your help is definitely clarifying things for me so thank you for the help. So, if I understand this correctly, you are suggesting I just use my regular email from my business domain and send each contact an email talking about the site and possibly subscribing. My question, and probably my last to bug you, is can I do this through one of these services? I guess not because I imagine those services would be sending the email through their domain. Sorry, I am so new to this that I am not sure.

If I use my personal business domain though, how would I assign a link to a newsletter? One of the reasons I was going to use mail chimp was I could create the newsletter there and send an email.

Don't waste creating a newsletter as your point of contact for subscribers. Just use an email. When they subscribe, you can have your first newsletter be part of your scheduled broadcast, launched by the subscriber, automatically upon sign-up.

If you use Aweber, they allow you to collect subscribers, in two different ways. First, by installing a traditional sign-up form on your website, and also by creating a link that you can put in an email which sends the data directly to their site with no web form, required. It's a back-end, non-visible collection method.

Avoid MailChimp. I can assure you that you'll regret it in the end. I am not an affiliate for Aweber or any other product or service that I might recommend. I made my money the old-fashioned way. I worked for it. :-)

I know about working for the money, trust me, I have worked and paid my way through school and continue to do so now as I venture into trying to market and sell my paintings. There is no "easy" way or shortcut to this process regardless of what people may say. The one good thing that comes out of the internet is helpful resources like this forum and people like you.

The website service I am using has an integrated newsletter signup form. I don't really care for it which is why I started to check out Mail Chimp. The website offers integration with Mail Chimp but I did not want to use it if it is not the thing to use. I will check out Aweber.

Wow, way to try to hijack another thread. Post your topic in a new thread so that others may benefit from your specific topic.

If you don't 'quote' the post you are referring to, then no one will know just who you ARE referring to. Sometimes that's easy to discern, but most times, it is not.

  • Instead of importing the contacts into autoresponder, the better way would be email your contacts and ask them to opt in to your mailing list or newsletter. Other than MailChimp, you can try Aweber or GetResponse.
