Advice to promote a new social media platform

Hi! I'm working with the creator of a social media platform to help on the promotion and this project is totally different to others I've worked with.

Imagine Facebook at its very first stage. Well, that's Netizz.

I wish I could ask Mark Z. about the promotion strategies that worked for him!

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I cannot add the link here, so I guess you need to google it to check the site.

Thanks in advance!

There are about 150 users already. The internal structure based on user's activity (groups, pages, personal posts) grows slowly, but that's ok.

We need some slow buzz about it. We are working on YouTube videos, some guest blog posting and social media actions.

Do you have any other ideas for me?

  • Unlike Mark Z, you can now promote your social media website on social media websites like Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter etc.

The sky is the limit thanks to Facebook advertising. Create some YouTube videos on how to use your new social media website, and use YouTube's advertising platform to promote your videos, then put a link to your website in the video description. Create similar videos and upload it to a fan page created for your website, and boost the posts. Rinse and repeat the process on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter etc.

There are multiple videos and online courses on the internet, that shows you how to effectively market and promote your websites, using all the social media websites I mentioned above.

Without demonstration videos and paid advertising, nobody would ever find out about your client's new social media website.

Having Facebook Ads is a great thing, for sure!
I like the idea of "how to" videos.

PR is likely the way you need to go to get the word out. You'll need to sell the idea and create initial adoption of the new social media platform, so marketing that leans on 'influence' is the way to go--strategically.

Long-term adoption is largely dependent on design and user volume.

      Thanks for your tip!
I'm working on a PR right now.
I've thought about influencers, but I'm not sure how to reach them out.
If you have any insight, I would really appreciate it.

    Tons of ideas including:

    - blogging
    - Facebook
    - Twitter
    - Youtube

but more than anything buddy; create helpful content and patiently help folks, to build strong friends. Be patient. Be persistent. Think in terms of months and years to see meaningful growth with your social media platform.

It was not what Mark Z *did*; it was what he was *being*, patiently spending years, spreading the word, without making a cent until his site became so well known that it took over social media.

      Thanks for your feedback, Ryan!
Patience and persistence are both on the basket already.

I think at first you need to identify what will make your platform unique compared to all the other ones available and what will make people want to use it compared to others.

Do you have any members yet?

      Hi Chris!

There are about 150 users. The project is quite new and there are some functions under development yet, so we cannot handle a massive participation at this time... but soon!

      Thanks for your feedback!

Try using paid campaigns like PPC.
