How Many Posts Did it Take You to Achieve Success?

I have heard that you need about 100 blog posts (of good quality) to start to see success online with blogging. While I know this answer will vary from one person to another, I am still curious to see what others think.

I think this can be helpful for beginners as many I have coached and spoken with tend to quit before they ever see more than a trickle of traffic. Some expect to write a couple of blog posts and see results from just two or three posts. Having a baseline or a goal to shoot for before evaluating the success of a blog is helpful.

For me, I have seen a good amount of traffic on a few blogs when I have hit about 50 or right around 150 blog posts. Really has depended on the niche and the overall strategy for me.

So, I am turning it over to all of you bloggers and marketers out there. How many blog posts did it take before you felt like you started to really see a difference in traffic/income on your blog?

I've had sites that do well with a small handful of posts (5-10) and others with 50+

It's also how you drive traffic and the niche opposed to just post count (and many other factors)

This comes down to marketing, not the number of posts. A single post can go viral, so all it takes is one, theoretically. Develop relationships with others in your niche and hopefully they will help promote things you write. For that to happen, it's all about quality, not quantity.

Oh, and to answer your question, I've pretty much always built websites around the eCommerce model, so the number of "posts" it took to be successful is zero!

Keep in mind that "success" is an extremely relative term that means different things to most people. One man's success is another man's, 'just scraping-by.'

  • As an internet marketer, each blog post should be properly marketed online to maximize exposer.

Unless you are initially using paid advertising to drive traffic to each new blog post, that you publish, you will find it extremely hard to generate traffic to your blog in the first six months of blogging.

A more accurate title for your post would be:

"How Many Posts Did it Take You to Achieve Enough Search Traffic To Earn A Living?"

"Success" has nothing to do with post count or search traffic.

I agree. Driving traffic is a big deal and can be done without writing a ton of posts. However, for beginners, many only have time to write a few posts a week and do very little marketing. They may also be on a shoe-string budget.

      Completely different model.

      This is very true.

This is more what I have seen myself. It takes at least a solid 3 months of regular blogging to see much of any results. Six months is more likely for a good amount of traffic.

Agreed, but we are splitting hairs here. My question was more geared towards those actually blogging and not as much towards the true marketer. There is a difference.

I am still interested to hear from true bloggers that spent more time writing posts than marketing them to achieve success, however they define the word.

Thank you for all your responses so far.

Blogging is not about quantity it is all about quality. Anyone can write 200 blog articles of subpar quality and never succeed. Another blogger can put together 30 masterfully written blog posts and strike gold. So remember to write with passion and facts that way people will keep coming back for the next posts.

I agree with what was said about all you need is one because it could go viral. But ultimately it depends on the niche and the keywords being used. But then again if Google decides to do one of there zoo animal changes you could lose all traffic. So the best traffic is your email list hands down. Learn how to drive traffic to a landing page, have a great following and you won't have to worry about Google or any other platform for traffic.

  • It is different for everyone.
It also depends on the Authority of your Blog.

Like said above, some Blogs can go to page 1 with 5 to 10 posts, and some Blogs with 100 plus articles don't get a look in.

Research some good SEO and go from there.
    Best of luck

    It truly depends on marketing.
If you have like 10 posts and you have built amazing backlinks then you can earn up to millions.
    Don't believe me??
I am sure you have heard the story of "10beats dot com".
If you haven't just google it and you will know that it all comes down to backlink in addition to quality content.
He has just posted 10 posts on his site, and he is earning a shit ton of money.
So hope you got my point.

While I agree about the email list, I don't agree about the viral comment, personally. Yes, one post could go viral, but viral traffic is fleeting and only lasts a little while. I have seen too many companies think they can duplicate viral results and fail to ever put my eggs in the viral basket. Personally, I think viral traffic should be treated at extra, not the norm.

I think if you're creating good quality content and not doing anything remotely shady with your SEO, any google update won't impact you, unless you're political and on the wrong side of things.

I agree, driving traffic to a landing page is great, but for the sake of this argument, that's not the method I am talking about for success.

Would love to see the site you mentioned, but it doesn't work. It gives a 503 Service error, so if this person had success, it's gone now, at least temporarily.

I agree it depends on marketing, but where do you strike the balance? Do you create 1 post a month and spend the rest of the month focusing marketing that one post or do you create one a week?
