An Approach to Affiliate Blogging for Writers, Newbies and Intermediates
While this makes perfect sense, there is a way to "give away the farm" and still earn money.
Focus your site, or one of your sites, on affiliate marketing as the primary revenue stream.
This will completely free you up to create the best content you are capable of.
Focus your niche market. Research their pains/frustrations, desires/needs, and then find solutions and write a blog post on one of those. Tell them why and how to do something that will solve a problem the very best way you can and then provide them a link to a paid "tool" to help them.
If they take you up on your recommendation (and you chose a solid product to promote) they will hopefully solve that problem and you get paid. Even if they don't take you up on your recommendation, you've done your best to help them and you probably did.
Do that with every post. It's ok if there are different products in different posts but only one product per piece of content.
Find the best product for each situation or pain point or use the same one across the board if you have niched down to ultra specific. Preferably a subscription/recurring payment product like a membership site, monthly access, or any product that will pay you commission month after month.
I think Karl Marx said "Sell a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, you ruin a wonderful business opportunity."
I tend to disagree and would rather hope you would take this next perspective onboard with regard to affiliate marketing blogging...
I wanna say I saw Sean Vosler say something like this: "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish so you can sell him fishing supplies."
Go do your thing.
