What to Expect From Your First Digital Marketing Placement/ Internship etc.

Hello!

Apologies if this is the wrong section etc.

As a web design student, I have just landed my first ever digital marketing placement, despite not having had any real experience in it. One of the first things I will be asked to do is to create a marketing strategy and with the sheer amount of articles and advice on the internet I am not sure where to start.

Any advice/ experience from others would be appreciated.

Thank you!

kinda 2 direction you can look at in terms of models to follow. there is "Content Pillar" here is a good description of that: https://marketeer.kapost.com/content-pillar-definition/ and then there is the "Hub and Spoke" model - an article here: https://www.verticalmeasures.com/blo...d-spoke-model/

In a lot of ways both models are very similar - the most obvious likeness is the fact they are both content based marketing styles. The Pillar model is more a model on how to stretch a single piece of content... And as much as the Hub and Spoke model CAN be the same thing, the idea is there is a mass of content to create reach.

But this would be the direction I woiuld look at.

    Hope that Helps!

It is shocking to me that a company would hire someone with no marketing experience for that job and expect them to come up with their own marketing plan with zero training.

While savidge4 points out two possible marketing strategies, both revolve around content creation - something that isn't necessarily the strong suit of someone with a web design background.

The question is like someone saying they have experience as a chef and need advice for how to do accounting at the restaurant they work at because the bookkeeper just quit. There are entire college degrees built around accounting as there are marketing degrees. The knowledge needed to do either isn't something someone gets from a website link or two.

Sorry, but I would have absolutely no idea how to answer a question that broad in a forum post. We used more than 65,000 words to cover website marketing an eCommerce website in our course and could write another 65,000 and still not hit everything you could possibly do.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am assuming when creating this marketing strategy I will be given guidance, however did not want to go in without suggestions or my own research.

Luckily I have had experience with content creation so that shouldn't be terribly difficult for me to handle.

The main thing I wanted was a stepping stone/stepping stones, somewhere to start which I have obtained to then go on to learning further about it.

      Thanks again!

Hi evenevens13 !! Considering that you have no experience in the Digital Marketing field,I guess in the initial few months of your job/ internship your organization is not going to ask you to make any kind of marketing strategy. You will be asked to do the SEO, SMO of your company or the client you will be working for. You might also be assigned to create well organised content for projects. From these activities slowly you will be taken to creating marketing strategy (the one you mentioned). even if you will be asked to create the said marketing strategy then you will be working under the supervision of a senior who will guide you as per the task you will be assigned.
Good Luck for your new job/internship
