How to monetize this website?

My advice - browse for some rival website like yours and check how do they do it.

I Think that You need to focus on the fact that You do not receive lots of visitors plus the fact that the Website is updated sporadically.
Finding sources of related content and traffic will be a good idea.

A few things to consider...

Content
Updating your site infrequently will lead to a lack of interest in people returning, and that will also hurt your organic search results. Your site needs fresh content. Provide value to your audience! You say you are "one of the editors", but there doesn't seem to be much to edit. Your time is better spent helping your audience via content.

Increase revenue (duh)
Where is your traffic coming from? Try groups and social media to drive free traffic.

Decrease expenses
I bring this up because you speak of the expenses. What expenses? Hosting at a few bucks a month? An autoresponder? Maybe a few other things if you are doing this yourself. If not, then you may be paying for staff, web designer, a proprietary platform???

I don't know what you got going on, but a website can be operated for very low cost. Share what your expenses are for so we can provide better help.

You have to be honest with yourself.. info on this stuff is F A R from sparadic.. you need to join a good number of festival email lists, and pump out content as they give it to you. I wouild look at "festicket" they offer an affiliate program. And between 2 of you and an hour or 2 each each day.. you could pump out some mad content in no time.

If you actually goto these events some video would be nice.. some post show comentary.. some live tweets and instagram posting would be nice. You simply need to GET IN THE GAME, and stop thinking if it is there it will do something for you.

The website I'm talking about gets sporadic updates only because it is very specific - it only talks about one seven-day music festival, with announcements emerging, on average, once every two-three months, and very little left to publish in between.
A few years ago, it did generate enough income to pay for its hosting and domain name. Today, it does not - even though it has affiliate links related to the subject, display advertising, and such.

Yea i think you need more traffic and more content .hiw much traffic you got per day ?

As a few others have mentioned make sure you check out what your competitors are doing.

Also make sure you know the demographics of your visitors. If you have a strong demographic then maybe you can use cpa offers for them.

Model your competitors and invest in getting more traffic. The slow way to get more traffic is doing more on SEO, Facebook Groups etc. The fast way is using paid traffic and reinvest the money that you'll earn to create more brand awareness. Try to capture their email and send them promotional offers through mail after you've provided them with valuable content.

Without traffic you will never monetise the site. Get the traffic then worry about how to make some income

In general you have three options:
Increase the number of visitors.
Increase the conversion rate from visitor to conversion goal.
Increase the money you get per conversion action.

In my experience it doesn't make much sense to spend large efforts on improving conversion rates and payout when your visitor numbers are low. Unless you find some highly specific, awesomely paying affiliate program where you are happy with three sales per week.

Rethink your content strategy. Talk about other festivals, write buzzfeed-ish "The ten most unforgettable xyz festival moments - number 5 will suprise you" articles, articles about what to do on a festival in general, things we hate about the xyz festival, news about artists, rumours, artists we'd like to see at the festival, ...

First of all, you should focus your efforts on increasing traffic, in your case it should be with organic content because you do not have money for advertising, to achieve this type of traffic you must necessarily add interesting and original content constantly.

Second try to create a list of emails to create a consistent base of followers and that they can be happy with the advice and special content that you give them, in this way you will become an authority to whom to pay attention.

And last and most important, identify the needs of your public to be able to promote products of your interest, because if your audience is related to news of musicians and artists from Eastern Europe, I doubt they are interested in buying books and trips.

Very inexpensive things to do to gather interest. Also affiliate marketing creates profit and connects with similar global services. Affiliate with other businesses with similar keywords. You already have the means to monetize your website such as adsense and affiliate links. One thing you missed is regular updates, which you metionded you only do sporadically.

Website viewers always want new updates and/or info. They don't like visiting a website with the same content everyday. Posting interesting and relevant contents regularly would boost your audience count and keep those who are already your visitor.

Also, social media presence is very important. Build a community using facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube etc., post interesting contents or updates about your website, or the ones you post on your website regularly. Make every post lead your followers to your website, so you get visitors out of them.

Another thing you can do is by selling products. You can sell physical or digital products which are relevant to your niche.

Build email list which comprise your most loyal customers, which sends them email everytime there is an update in your website.

Once you have built a community and generated a good number of daily visitors, you can then start offering ad spaces to companies where you can earn more profit. You become attractive to companies if you have established a good amount of visitors and followers.

So my advice, if you don't make your revenue grow or you want to use other methods such as push notifications that they leave you good results for high profit I do it with Publisherpick since I use other methods my revenue have been duplicated.
