Hi Guys

I am just starting on this SEO journey with my own site... What is your opinion of these paid companies providing the software like AHREFS, SERANKINGS and SEMRUSH but to name a few? It would seem they provide similar data ( yet to be fully understood by me) but prices are quite expensive and variable.

IS it worth the expense? Can you get the same information from a free or several free tools?

R
Costa

Ahref is very good all in one tool if you ask for paid tools.

But there are free tools you can utilize for SEO

Neil Patel's Ubersuggest is good one,
    SERPstat is good one.

Hi Costa and all the rest.
We have been using SemRush at work, its a good paid tool but Google has started to punish Semrush so if you start out maybe start with something a bit more stable... Google Search Console - analytics.

Punish like the crawling are slow., When looking for building links, less and less potential pages are displayed. Also outreach seems to be a bit faulty also. However all the analyzing part of the tool still works. we have paid subscription just for analysing, And semrush is vevry good for this job.

You might not get what you need in a free tool, free tools are quiet limited. But they are good to get started. If you are serious and have a good budget, consider upgrading to paid one.

I'm doing the same. I joined Ahrefs on the 7 day trial, used all the tools, downloaded all my competitors link reports then cancelled the trial. It was great to get started.
