How do the Instagram meme's makers make money?

Hi there

I remember some weeks/months back there was a guy who was basically ripping off other people's "meme" content and posting it on Instagram and was making a lot of money.

I'm quite new to Instagram.

The only thing I am not sure about is how did this guy get money/paid?

Sponsors/advertising may be one route; but I'm hard pressed to understand how meme makers make money.

Can anyone elaborate this route?

Thank you for your patience.

  • Hey Zardon,

I'd guess sponsors/advertisers, shoutouts etc. are their income sources. However, I bet that business model is both, unstable and short term.

If you're interested in building a real business, making real money (10k, 20k, 50k, and more per month), then instagram meme business is not the way to go...

Building a YouTube channel, Email list, Blog, etc. and monetizing it through affiliate marketing or own products will be soooooo much more sustainable and controllable.

I suppose that sponsors/advertising is the main way. Also it's possible to get many followers and sell account. Sometimes I see such offers on SEO platforms.

    • I wonder how those accounts perform after they've been burned out with "sponsored posts"

Well, most likely shoutouts or sponsorship promos.

I guess they'd just grow one (probably multiple) highly active and engaging accounts, and just go from there, eventually might even flip the accounts in instagram account marketplaces...

Alternatively, something in the backend. Might have links to shopify stores or his/her own products, monetized youtube channels or niche websites...possibilites are endless

Big accounts with large followings definetly get paid for advertisements. They also get free products some money from products sold using their "promo codes".

Thanks for the replies. I'm playing around with the idea of starting my own podcast and directly inviting people I know in my network to come on board. I was just interested in what instagram could do for me as a side hustle income not my main one.

I do agree its probably sponsorship or external links to t-shirt e-commerce shops or other methods.

    • Maybe you can use Instagram to generate leads and traffic to your Podcast. After all, Instagram is just a marketing channel...

Depending on your unique brand of Instagram content, your audience, and your level of commitment, you can make money on Instagram in the following ways:

Doing sponsored posts for brands that want to get in front of your audience.
Becoming an affiliate and making a commission selling other brands' products.
Creating and selling a physical or digital product, or offering a paid service.
Selling licenses for your photography or videos.

That's called sponsors post and sponsors always get money.

As you well described your friend who starts Instagram with the paritucl theme and starts making money with Instagram so this is easy to make money.

I tell you how You just need to maintain your profile with daily update and as you will keep maintaining your profile you will have a good number of followers and your profile will become strong.

So once you profile become strong, You can get offers of sponsors post on your profile. This is just a ways to make money on Instagram.

My friend runs a collection of meme pages with well over 3M followers in total. All he does is sell sponsored posts. A few per week spread over his several profiles so none of them turn into a wall of advertisements. He makes good money.

Sponsored posts are nice and all, but what you do if your account gets banned for posting pictures that are not even yours?

As other said, this business model is extremely volatile.

Pages who are in the "comedy skit" niche (ie.@kingbach @amandacerny type creators) sometimes get paid by creators to make their videos into a meme for their page. They can easily pass it off as an organic post that matches their feed and it encourages other users & meme pages to re-share.

Shoutouts & re-selling of the accounts are very common place for these niche pages as well.

My friend runs a popular Instagram photography page , gets anywhere between 900 up to 4000 likes on his posts , he posts reviews for new products. (Gets paid couple hundred for a review and free stuff) then also sees a lot of referrals come through for photography work

As a quick follow up, I heard that Cristiano Ronaldo makes a bit of money from Instagram

    https://www.businessinsider.com/cris...op=1&r=US&IR=T

But I'm not sure where this money comes from. Sponsors/advertisers might be one route, of course he's a brand name and has market recognition but is there a report or info on how they do it?

I think that it helps to be very outward and extrovert and I'm the complete opposite so maybe thats not for me.
