I have a consulting business and have built the content for my website...currently domained at Go Daddy! I really like Go Daddy. I have had some very good support from them with some other websites. However, I am planning to use Wordpress for the content. I have heard that it is difficult to manage a Wordpress site, that I should possibly go with Go Daddy's canned site builder. The site is going to evolve and will need to be flexible and scaleable. Can I get thoughts on whether I am taking on too much complexity or whether its worth the upfront work. I am pretty comfortable with the tools. Thanks so much!!

  • Go with a Wordpress site if you are not familiar just go to Wordpress.org and look at the various themes and watch a few wp videos on line. These sites are very flexible and you will be able to scale much better than a limited godaddy site.

    I would not host the site at the same place you have your domain with in case you have problems in the future and need to move the site.

    If you have a problem with godaddy do you think they will allow you to move their canned site else where ? With Wordpress you can move it to any hosting company.

  • I think Wordpress mould be the best and easy to use. Just because in Wordpress you get all builtin plugins. So this easy then go dady.

  • I agree wordpress is your way forward. Flexible and expandable as you see fit. Huge community to help you out if you get stuck and thousand of videos at youtube, from installing to using wordpress. I wouldn't use godaddy's canned site builder for my business site.

    What exactly is the site going to be used for?
  • Welcome to the forum KLG! As you can see, there is overwhelming support for Wordpress as being the easiest to set up and run. If you say you are comfortable with the tools and can build a website yourself, then I'm not sure who suggested to you that WP is difficult to use...your dog?

    You'll be hard pressed to find something easier out there to use than Wordpress.

    DWolfe also made a great point about hosting your site elsewhere in case you run into trouble. The last thing you want is your scaled up website being stuck somewhere you don't want it to be.

  • I started putting together a wordpress blog site this past weekend and so far it's been a pretty good experience, there are a lot of resources to help figure things out, lots of plugins for different things that you might need, responsive themes, and A LOT of people use wordpress that can help out when you have questions.
  • I've used Ionos.com (formerly 1and1) for my sites and primarily use their managed wordpress unlimited install package which works great for me. I think I have about 30+ sites on there, over 100+ domains and have hosted sites that we getting thousands of visitors per hour.
