Affiliate marketing beginners' friendly strategy?

Hello dear warriors all around the world,

I hope everyone is doing well and getting closer to their dreams.

Please allow me to briefly tell you about myself by the end of the post after my question just to be considerate towards people with limited time. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read my post. THANK YOU.

I'm going to embark on the affiliate marketing journey soon and I'm just trying to get my head around things so I can know what I'm going to do and actually go and do it.

My interest is in going into Clickbank with Google Ads or Bing Ads for a starter. I know about the general guidelines towards that approach but I kinda feel that it is a bit of grey area. Some people say that Google ads hate affiliate marketing other say it's hard to build a website and promote Affiliate offers through that website while driving traffic to it using PPC.

My question is;
1. What is in your opinion the best strategy that is beginner's friendly to start in affiliate marketing that allows both learning while on the road as well as profits and successes early on even if it is minor wins or successes such as getting an early first sale .. etc (I explain the thing with minor successes in the brief about me. I'm totally not looking for getting rich now scheme and I'm totally willing to put all the effort and time needed)

or put in other words, that have low failure rates?

if you recommend any other strategy other than the one I have in mind (ClickBank + PPC) please let me know about it and why it's a better choice.

To explain myself better,
* I've decided to set aside a small amount of money to invest in this cause my freelancing income started to be very unstable and a little bit unreliable especially with increasing demands of life with young kids. So I'm trying to make the transition from freelancing to Affiliate marketing in the shortest time possible.

*I don't want to be starting with something that would just halt my progress and my learning curve from the start cause it was a bit advanced, to begin with. I'm open to all challenges but I'm trying to be smart and start with something that would actually allow me to further my knowledge and experience.

2. Any recommended reads, courses or books to give me a boost in the affiliate arena?

P.S. I've for sure been reading, searching, listening and watching and collecting information but just would love to hear your recommendations. Also, I'm going to move into taking actions this week top

Brief about me:
I've been interested in starting my journey in the online business world in general and in the affiliate marketing specifically as a started. I'm not new to the online world since I've been freelancing for the past 5 years and my entire income throughout this period was solely made online. However, I wasn't able to move myself to the next level. I was able to achieve minor successes here and there. Traveled for a while but was continuously facing limitations mostly financial. I have a small family of four with 2 young kids who I wish I can set a good example for.

I have a medical background since I have an MBChB and I've worked in the medical arena as an emergency doctor for a while before I quit everything and started to learn video editing and motion graphics and within a year I was able to generate some side income and after that one year I decided to embark on my traveling dreams and I did actually travel for 4 years with my family until I faced some hardships and calamities which knocked me down to the ground and I had to return back home and now I'm trying to build myself back up again but this time I intend to conquer all my fears, failures and shortcomings.

To be completely honest here I'm a work in progress. I'm trying to succeed online and trying to establish a solid business for my own while at the same trying to beat my flaws and errors. I'm gonna be completely vulnerable here and say that I used to think of myself as a quitter and as soft but those 4 years of travels taught me a lot and difficulties I've faced all alone shaped me into a different person. I want to prove to myself that I can succeed, that I'm not a quitter that I am consistent and that I am a doer, not a talker. That's why I need your help here cause I just want to draw the lines and know what I'm going to achieve this to start to achieve minor successes towards the major successes. Cause I really think I need to create the references for my mind to go back and look at whenever it gets hard.

I've taught myself a lot of things. I've worked and still working on my mindset, my body, and my finances. I like to read books A LOT. I love running and I'm currently using it as a way to develop consistency into my system preparing to run a full marathon next February. BUT as I've stated earlier I consider myself a work in progress and I consider life is the greatest school ever and that one actually dies once they stop learning and developing.

If you have made it to this point of the post. THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to read all of it. I appreciate it.

I always feel that I miss connecting and communicating with like-minded people so aside from my question, I'd be happy to get to know like-minded people and people who were able to achieve their goals and make their dreams realities. So please, connect with me if this something that interests you and you'd like to get to know me better.

Sincerely,
Ramy

  • Well Ramy,
I would urge you to start writing your experiences in a book and that would be your best product to achieve affiliate success with.

    Why?

Because you have strong writing skill, you seem comfortable, and your description of your learning through ordeal seems very captivating. I feel your best product for "affiliate" marketing is your own!

All the things you need to do for someone else's product, you would be doing for your own - so why not?

I would start with a blog that you will later turn into that book. You can begin collecting emails from visitors interested in early access to your writings before they get published in brief form on the blog (they'll get fuller versions). These email opt-ins will be the first sales of your book when you publish and they will serve as your first reviewers.

Your book should be titled in a way to capture the Internet / business journeys you have had and the new one you are embarking on now having learned a lot about life and what is important, etc., and tie that into lessons for anyone seeking to survive in life while trying to make money online.

You can make videos of some of your memories as a health professional, lessons learned and reflections on life, etc. Quite an interesting array of things I imagine you can develop and amplify.

Along with each post, your blog could feature some other affiliate products in the writer's, mmo, blogging and self-help niches just to name a few.

You would be an easy shoe-in for guest blogging here and there, podcast and video interviews, and can develop a few other types of engagements that can create income for you, such as, create courses on how to turn life into profits, etc. <<There you go another product for you!

Feel free to reach out again along your journey here at the WF and let us know how you're faring and let me know when your book is on Amazon as I will certainly buy it.

Frankly, I see no better expenditure of your time and no greater way to learn than what I suggested above. Good Luck!

      @professorrosado

      Dear Dr. Rosado,

I really can't thank you enough for taking the time not to only read my post but also to write down your thoughts and heartfelt advice and for that, I'm grateful and appreciative.

Some of the ideas you've suggested have been on my mind for a while now. I've been thinking about how to provide value to others and help others to achieve their goals and dreams BUT at the same time I always feel that I need to first achieve my goals and realize my own dreams first. I know the lines are blurred here because when I compare myself now to my past version 15 years earlier I realize that these are 2 completely different versions and that there are people who just sounds and acts like my older versions along that span of the past 15 years.

I've been away from my friends and family for whole 4 years and when I came back I swear I can see the difference. I can see that nothing has changed and everyone is more or less the exact same. I feel it when I talk to them and see that they can't even comprehend what I'm saying not because I'm better than anyone but because they haven't exposed themselves to new information and experiences.

I know that my life started to change when I started reading which was around 3 years ago and since then I feel like I've been changing on a daily basis I try to convey this to the people in my life but mostly they are not there yet on their life journeys being bombarded with negativity and the quick pace of life. BUT I've also noticed that some of them started to change because I've been talking to them about some of the ideas and concepts that I've started to believe in even if I'm not sure if this is because of me or it is just something that happened. This among many other things made me think of similar ideas like the one you have mentioned.

Actually I've been researching a good hosting provider the past couple of days to start taking actions and I was planning on starting my own personal blog and I was thinking of making it as a progress monitoring system where people can see my progress as it is going and eventually that would make me held responsible to achieve my goals as well, being pushed forward by the commitment to my goal of not being a quitter ever again .

One other reason I've been thinking about this is that I've noticed that for me some times I find difficult to see how can I achieve what other great people have achieved and that's mostly because you can only see their end result of their endless efforts to be great but when I understand their journey and how they have been able to overcome the difficulties, it suddenly shifts my mind and I start believing that I too can do it. So if I was able to share my progress and my working on myself while I'm still at the beginning I believe that might help others see that it is doable and achievable.

However, as the increasing financial demands of my family are not going anywhere I was also planning on focusing on understanding and achieving success with affiliate marketing promoting someone else's products while I'm building my own personal blog. I believe this way I can start learning and gaining more experience in the field which would also help me working on the other long term project while at the same time being able to cope and meet my family's needs.

I would definitely keep updating everyone here on WF about how I'm going about it. I'm so thankful for your advice Dr. Rosado and I promise you to let you know once my book is available on Amazon and I promise myself that I'm not going to stop

      Sincerely,
      Ramy

Is it the system / platform / affiliate option, or the lack of effort from the user / person, that causes the failure rate?

I think it is most likely the lack of effort and that's why I'm trying to put more effort into understanding and gaining advice from the people who have experience and knowledge.

I'll give you an example which might not be closely related but it would give an idea. I've been practicing running on and off since last year but last month I decided that it's not going to be on and off anymore and that It's going to be consistent from now on and I've put a goal to run a full Marathon which going to take place next February.

Now I can go out and just run and put much effort into running without the needed information that would prevent me from failing early in the process which by the way I've tried before and I ended up injuring myself and taking 2 weeks+ to recover and then get mixed up with everything going n life and lose the momentum.

      OR

I can use the experience and information that others who have been able to actually run a full marathon before and who have been running consistently so I can start building up that momentum to keep going.

Maybe that's not how everyone would think about it but that at least for me would help me keep going and maybe it's just something in my head that would be fixed as I go about it . Building positive experiences and minor successes so I would be able to relate to my own positive experiences and successes.

I'm not sure I've been able to fully explain myself but I hope you got my idea

I used to think that I'm not lucky and that I never get anything done easily and I have to suffer a lot before I get the things I want but lately I've realized that this was a limiting belief which I've developed based on so many bad experiences but if I was able to change that limiting belief into a positive belief I would be able to move forward and have success. But how to change that belief if I don't have that have the reservoir of good experiences so it won't turn into a blind belief which in my humble opinion and experience fade away after a while. That's when I started to think of creating minor successes and positive experiences.

For instance, I've just signed up for a 3-days technology summit where I live and I was about to pay for the ticket on next day when I received a call from a person who gave me an unexpected 20% discount on the price of the ticket and I kept suspecting that this was a scam and kept on asking her why she is doing it and she sincerely replied that she already have promo codes and she was just giving them away randomly. Now, I have this positive experience to use next time I feel that I'm not worthy enough to receive. Now I can become open to receiving.

Thank you for your thought-provoking question and for taking the time to read my post.

I think I am going to cross a line with this one, and go against the grain a bit and suggest that starting with your own product is a path of failure for most. I wont say for all because there are examples of those that plugged thru the thick and thin and have made it to some degree.

Generally speaking in terms of Internet Marketing 95% of those that start this journey fail. And when I say "Fail" I mean over whatever period of time they have never made more than $100.00 USD

You are current looking at Click bank and I really do not think that is a bad route to follow for a beginner. Not something I specifically do - or have ever done for that matter. I started my path in Online marketing in the late 90's and a lot of this stuff was not around back then... and simply put things have changed.

If there is only one thing you draw from this post let it be this... BUY the product you are going to sell. READ it... and actively USE it.

I would better than venture to say that the 95% of failures don't do the above step... They honestly have NO clue what they are selling, and they are only selling it because "the numbers" looked good.

Why is this important? #1 By actually going thru the process of buying the product, you will now have access to the follow up sequence of e-mails that product will provide. #2 You will understand HOW they are selling the item IE what they sales page looks like, The verbiage the overall persona of the sales voice. #3 If you BUY from a sales page what does the effort getting a prospect to a sales page look like? - You need to focus on PRE SELLING and not actually selling.

So what does PRE SELLING look like? A pretty basic buyer cycle on the internet looks like this:

Just looking ( Tire kicking )
Interested in X and wanting to learn more ( Intent )
Interested in option C and wanting to compare it to A and B ( Comparison )
    Going to buy B ( Specific )
and then after sale support ( Support )

Pre selling is then creating content about X ( what ever the topic of the item you are selling ) Comparing the item you are selling with other similar products making your item the right choice for the end user . Giving the opportunity to slide over to the sales page ( your affiliate link ) to make the purchase

And then there is support. the GREATEST short coming of any and every product sold. Now that I have it, how do I use it? in terms of say A weight loss program, a workout program, a course that teaches how to get internet traffic etc etc etc. You are generally given the product ( a PDF or the like ) and that's the end of that.

Sales are more often than not closed based on a few things. Authority - your just starting and even tho you have a degree, 8 blog posts isn't going to get you here. Brand - Again just starting and this doesn't exist yet. Education - Educate about the product you are selling from a position of actually using it, this helps with authority, and develops trust in knowing buying from "you" is the right choice.

Using your Marathon running example, as an example. who do you want to learn about running a marathon? someone that is going to run their first on in Feb? OR someone that has ran 20 of them over the past 5 years? - THAT is Authority.

A website written by Haile Gebrselassie Would be Authority

Selling a product by Haile Gebrselassie Would be Brand and using your personal journey following that product leading up to running your first marathon in Feb piggy backs the Brand, and the Authority, and creates trust in those that read you. make sense?

I personally think to get to a point that you are producing your own products, comes at the point of developing BRAND and AUTHORITY for yourself over time, and using others Brand and Authority to getting there. And again looking back at the 95% this is not something you see practiced.

Wish the best of luck for you, Professionally and Personally

    Hope that Helps!

Thank you @savidge4 for the advice. I do appreciate it. I think it's a very good idea to actually try the product before promoting it and I might try to implement that.

Aside from that, my main question was about the strategy to start with. Like can I learn from starting to promote products from Clickbank by building a micro niche website and promote that website on Google Ads or Bing Ads? is this a valid strategy to start with?

Also, anyone, one could please recommend a course on affiliate marketing to follow along?
