Keyword ranking on wrong page & vice versa

Hi, I have been working to optimise a local services based business website. There are some service based keywords that are ranking on the home page while we have dedicated service page as well, for those particular services.

What is the possible reason for this?

Happy to provide the URL, but not sure if it is allowed here. Admins, Mods please confirm if I can post the URL here so people can have better picture.

    The reason is simple: your home page has more backlinks, hence, more power.

    I have also the same problem for my client website. I think more backlink at home page in comparison to the service page is the reason for this ranking.

    It can take some time to rank. Somtimes it takes months until subpages appear in search results.

    Apart from earning more backlinks for subpages/service pages, I would analyze the homepage and other service pages to check if the targeted keywords are not confusing search engines, Also I would check if the content is relevant on particular pages.
    You should target separate set of keywords with relevant quality content to compliment with. Then get some backlinks using Local and offpage SEO techniques.
