Hi Warriors !

and thank you for this great forum.

I have learned a lot from WF and I keep coming for more every day !

I need some advice......

Being a developer, it is not hard for me to create a software product. If needed, I can also hire more developers
(over the years I have spent more than $10K on Upwork alone).

So my basic plan is :
1.Create a software product
2.Run ads (hopefully 100 clicks won't cost more than $50)
3.Make enough sales to be in profit (1-3 sales sounds about right ?)

So I need your advice as to what are some possible pitfalls and problems I may run into ?

I can see one problem being the support for the software, unless it is a SAAS product.

Any pointers on what kind of software would be in demand ?

Why don't you find a niche and drill into it? You're approaching development just like most newbie marketers do IM and then get frustrated and disappointed.

Either go deep into one of your own high interest areas, or, at minimum, do some research by reviewing various niche-based forums and assess how much and where there is a need for software-based solutions you can develop.

Thanks , I had not thought about it this way.

So you're saying picking a niche is first on the list.....

Actually I have a niche but it is not good for selling (people don't buy), also it is too narrow (oh well that's the definition of niche lol !)

Any idea what traits a good niche needs to have ?

Picking a niche is ALWAYS first on the list. You then pick a target profile out of that niche. The narrower the better. Understand, it's not always your product that needs to go narrow. Your marketing does.

Example: I could have a product that helps cure insomnia. That product could help people who can't sleep because they are stressed out. It could help people who are dealing with a death in the family. It could help almost anyone get a good nights sleep regardless of their specific problem.

The mistake would be to create a broad, bland, diluted marketing campaign targeting ALL people who can't sleep. The right approach would be to create different ads targeting different people with different reasons for wanting your product.

The more specific you can get, the more targeted your campaigns will be.

Example: If I can't sleep because I'm stressed out from work - which ad would I likely be more drawn to...

        1) The Amazing New Breakthrough Formula that Helps Anyone Get a Good Nights Sleep (typical Internet Marketing copy with all the buzzwords)

        2) Having Trouble Sleeping Because You Are Stressed Out From Work? (No fancy buzzwords needed)

If it's me that can't sleep because I'm stressed out from work, I'm automatically drawn to the second option. The first option becomes irrelevant.

Even if it was the exact same product, the second option is the one that enters the conversation already going on in my mind.

I see your point and it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

So basically it's the way you present the product that matters, as if it was always intended to fix only that particular problem.

I would recommend you to start with a small marketing research. Try to look at what is popular at websites that sell scripts, for example, hotscripts. It can be anything, e.g. scripts for scheduling dental appointments, or software for lawyers, etc, etc.

You don't need to write software yourself. For example, there are a lot of companies in India or Eastern Europe with mature software products that want to expand their business and start selling in the US. You can find companies like these which are looking for partners or resellers and try to sell their products using your marketing skills.

That's an interesting idea, although not one I would be thrilled to pursue at the moment.
