BEGINNERS AREA

does anyone know how i could enable compression on my webpages for a faster load time please? is this done by the host or by adding code. i'm not using a modern such as wordpress program or anything

if you are using a hosting with cPanel you can enable gzip compression from your control panel. https://www.plothost.com/kb/enable-g...eflate-cpanel/

You can use tool like: https://varvy.com/tools/gzip/ to confirm that gzip/compression is enabled.

if you could not enable this from your cPanel ask your hosting provider, because Gzip module will need to be installed and enabled on the machine web server.

You should consider doing it for text files (css, js, etc.) that are above a certain size. Do not do it on images, images are already compressed, you'll get no benefit other than wasting server processing time. Remember to balance the amount of compression w/CPU load. Right now for my site I only compress text files above 30k. I'll probably reduce that to a lower threshold but want to be conservative with CPU cycles for now.
