How can I make money online? Wrong question.

How is money made online with Internet Marketing? Same as offline, an exchange of value, most commonly money for the thing or service.

Value is both agreed upon and a perception. If agreed upon, a transaction is made.

The THING or service one offers can be your own, or belong to someone else as in affiliate or ecom marketing.

One can CREATE, one can ACQUIRE, OR one can be the middle person.

Just my opinion, but too many Warriors come not only asking the wrong question of us, but they haven't asked themselves, "What do I want and WHY?"

These two questions begin a self assessment, which should include an examination of experiences, expertise, knowledge, skills or lack thereof.

How can one know what they have to offer the marketplace unless they self assess?

So, that might be the most logical first step to learning how to make money online.

In my experience, the majority of people that ask "How do I make money online" have little to no background in offline business and little to no formal education in business,

Conversely, in my experience, a small minority of the people that ask the same question do in fact have a offline business background and a formal education in business.

Both types, the majority and the minority, have little to no background doing business online.

We do not know their background and education unless they tell us upfront or we ask.

When I am asked "How do I make money online" I always reply with something like "You are really asking one of two questions that I can attempt to answer: "How do YOU make money online?" and "How does everyone make money online?"

The first question is the most difficult because the person asking the question is in the majority, i,e. little to no background in offline business and little to no formal education in business. The answer to that question requires asking more questions. Unfortunately, the majority does not want to answer questions, take a personal assessment, etc.

Rather then ask them to answer too many questions at once I know it is best to ask one or two questions at a time. Otherwise, too many questions at once overwhelms a person with little to no background in offline business and little to no formal education in business.

re Gordon, When asked "What do YOU want and WHY?" I know it is best to ask this first with an explanaione something like "I ask so I can answer your question." That at least conveys that someone is here to help.

The most common answer is something like "I want to make money to improve my lifestyle." That is reasonable and again the most common answer.

That answer, in my opinion, is the best time to ask them to do a little personal assessment, etc. again without overwhelming or pushing them to the point of information overload.

Simply ask simple questions and will more than likely get simple answers. That unto itself is the opening to asking more important questions without overwhelming them and overloading them with information.

Can I market a product or service offline and online, that other online or offline shoppers are willing to buy from me?

Marketing is the key factor in making online sales. Without proper marketing, making sales online are virtually impossible. By perfecting your online marketing skills, you will ensure that you will have a sustainable online business. If you are able to master becoming an online marketer, then you'll be able to market and effectively sell your own products & services online, as well as other product creators products and services.

I couldn't agree more. Asking "how do I make money online?" is too broad of a question. You can make money online many different ways.

Some of these ways are more like a job (and can lead to one set of answers to the question) and some other ways to make money online are closer to the definition of a business.

For example, you can easily make money online by becoming a freelance writer. But is that an online business? Or is it more of a job? On the other hand, you could work as an affiliate marketer, driving traffic to your site through content, social media and ads and make it scalable. That would resemble more of an online businesses.

So when you ask: how do I make money online? you first have to think what your goals are. Are you looking for a job, a side gig, or a business? Knowing that and knowing the value you can bring to the table can help you narrow down your scope.

I find there is also a correlation with the level of detail in a question and the likelihood of someone listening, executing and eventually finding success.

Whenever someone asks such a broad question like "how do I make money online", "where do I get free traffic", etc. Most of the times there is no thought or research behind them and normally these people are just tire kickers.

For what it's worth, the internet is constantly evolving, so a method that worked a few years ago may no longer work. So it's possible for people who made money in the past to be at square one with the rest of the group.

If you are new to IM, it means you are NEW to IM and you should NOT think about how to make money, because you won't make any money. It's totally the wrong mindset. It's like trying to play soccer first time and thinking how could you score a goal, many goals. Just learn. Learn and do simple tasks like buying domain, installing wordpress, read about affiliate marketing, read about SEO, read about the topic you are interested in the most. Do NOT expect to make money, not in your first month of IM career, not even in few months.

People think that IM world is easy and simple, but in reality, it's totally different, there are so many roadblocks, fails, scams and you really need to build up your mindset first and building a mindset takes time, for me personally it took almost 8 years to finally see the IM world without pink glasees, after so many fails and tears and moments when you think that IM is totally not for me, after spending thousands of dollars (not spending, but lossing), after huge debts, problems in personal life, I finally understood how IM world works and how to be successful.

A huge factor in success is research.

A Google search for the query will bring up many, many ways it's possible.

If you're not smart or motivated enough to do independent research, you don't have a chance.

I just got started in internet marketing but that doesn't mean I'm new to marketing online. If you're looking to make money here think about it like any other thing you would approach and come up with a plan to generate an income. Don't think there will be some magic method. You have to sell a product or service and you have to find the right audience to market your product or service to. There are plenty of great resources here on the WF and I'm looking forward to learning more from all of you!
