Do Searches with Stop Words Have Different Search Volume Than The Same Searches Without Stop Words?

Still learning SEO and I'm a little confused about how stop words work.

Specifically, I'm confused about why the same search queries with and without stop words have differing search volumes. For example, "Roofers in Alberta" likely has a different search volume that "Roofers Alberta".

Any guidance (or even better any literature that could help me learn more about how Google views search queries) would be greatly appreciated

Read an article not too long ago that said stop words do affect the search volume. If I find the article, i'll message it to you!
