Brand new here, and looking for beginner's advice.

I am ready for a career change. I currently make my living selling building materials wholesale. It isn't as glamorous as it sounds. I am interested in learning digital marketing. I already have a degree in Marketing, however it is almost thirty years old. Digital marketing didn't exist when I was in school.
I don't even know where to start. I have found online courses that appear to require a great deal of time and money. I am old enough so that I cannot spend years learning something new.
I am looking for comprehensive online courses or other sources of information, and am open to any suggestions that you may have.

It doesn't take years to learn online marketing - but it does take some time and effort - it's a process. Some threads below to get you started - will give you an idea what marketers DO online.... There is no ONE way do to 'do' internet marketing.
.The thread below has some realistic and useful info in it -though it was not the quick/easy fix the person was asking for.

Two excellent 'path' threads you might learn from:

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

    Hello and Welcome!!!

None of us are getting any younger. If I were you I would
research if I could move my building material wholesale
business to the internet, if that is something that would be
lucrative for you. Maybe setup a dropship arrangement,
where your supplier ships directly to your customers and
you keep the middleman markup profits. This would still
require some work on your part but you could do it from
the comfort and privacy of your own home. And you
wouldn't need to learn about a completely brand new
    product line.

I think it really depends on what you're looking for. Do you have an idea on what you're looking to do?

Find customers and discover their problems. Solve those problems, preferably outsourcing them, then resell your the solution to similar customers.

    Basically a three-step system.

I am a personal believer in "experience". I would suggest to go with what you know.. you sell building materials wholesale. Why not start with that?

Do you work for a lumbar yard?

I would suggest if you do not already have these.. get a Twitter account, Get a LinkedIn account, Get a facebook account, and an Instagram Acct. IF there is no shame in your game I would suggest a youtube account, and also suggest a TikTok account.

Something to look at... "the build show" Matt Risinger ( on youtube ) is a of builder knowledge. You literally ( I am guessing ) have hands on access... HUGE bonus in my book. You want to become the "Matt" in your local builder community.

Does where you work get returns that you sell at a discount? ask to have 48 hours before it goes on the floor to sell it on Facebook Market place at a slight profit to you? Old inventory that's just sitting there? throw it up.

Selling in the digital age if you were to ask me, is about education. I might suggest getting the book "Jab Jab Jab Right Hook" by Gary Vaynerchuk It will help you on the path of how education pays in the end.

Any questions please ask and the best of luck to you!

This is one advice which you should definitely follow. All your marketing efforts online should be focused on building an email list in your niche market then you can sell products and services to your email list quite easily.

hmm quite easily ...hmmm... it's not that easy.. people buy from people they know like and trust..
so just having an email list doesn't mean that people automatically can make money from it without any skills
