Can I rank for these keywords?

I've discovered something my keyword research. It would be lucrative if I could rank for these, but can I rank?

Some of the properties of what I've found:
  • There's a set of 150 keywords all in the same industry
  • Monthly search volume is 1k-65k, average 15k. (happy face)
  • Moz difficulty ranking is 37-50, average 44. (sad face)
  • Exact-match domain-names are available for nearly all of them. (happy face)

According to What is a Good Keyword Difficulty Score?: "if your site is brand new or has few positive ranking signals, you may find that even lower difficulty keywords (those in the 20s or 30s) are pretty tough"

Is it realistic for a one-man (to three-man) operation to rank for something with such a high difficulty? I'd need to have some edge.

One thing that could be an edge is the exact-match domain-names, but I understand they're not as important to ranking as they were when I was in the game years ago. Are they still at all important?

Another thing that could be an edge is targeting the network of keywords, all of them enforcing each other with ranking signals. If I registered all 150 domain names (I can afford to), and pointed them to each other.... I'm guessing that's a trick that Google is wise to and frowns upon? Could I do it from different hosts? Has anyone here had success with that?

Maybe there's some other edge I could have that I'm not seeing?

If domain-names are totally irrelevant now, should I register one domain, and target all 150 keywords with pages within it? Would this be better than multiple small domains?

Thanks warriors.

you are missing niche research, researching competition, identifying target audience .....AND the quality of your site and your content.

Building a popular site is not a battle between you and google - it's working with search engines/social media to attract people who are interested in what you have to offer. Google says 'if your site is brand new' - why would that discourage you or make you look only for an 'edge'?

It is good you've obviously done some research - but you don't seem to have learned from it. I think you are asking about methods you already know are no longer valid - such as exact match and domain networks.

The big question: What have you DONE so far when it comes to creating content, deciding what you will sell, building a site/blog?

I didn't put other aspects in my post because my question is specifically about ranking.

Hi - welcome and my first question would be - are you trying to rank something all over the entire world?

It's going to be much easier if you're trying to rank local (city,st, keyword) type sites).

Like if you tried to rank for, best email autoresponder (to try and get affiliate sales to a specific autoresponder) you've got your work cut out for you.

On the other hand, if you're trying to get local businesses to pay you for leads and you want to rank, let's say.... wooden fence contractor in tacoma - you'll have a better shot at ranking.

There's alot of factors that go into SEO. It's not like it used to be 10 years ago where you use a keyword domain, h1 tag for keyword and you're on page 1!

One of the best things I ever learned was that DONE is better than perfect.

What's stopping you from going ahead and buying one of these exact match domain names?

Go ahead and buy it... add quality content with long tail keywords throughout the blog. These people that rank for popular keywords didn't do so overnight. They've been blogging for YEARS. They have hundreds if not thousands of articles and links pointing to their site.

Whatever you do - here's one good tip - Collect Email addresses. When you build your own email list, you can send traffic anytime you want to wherever you want.

The question is Can I rank? Of course you can, given enough time and resources.

The question is: Is it worth it?

Exact match means nothing any more. Moz difficulty means nothing: the thing that matters, for low search jeywords, is how good is the page at #1; for high search ones, how good is 3, can you overtake it?

Google dies not frown on linking pages from 150 domains; it frowns on any linking done for ranking at all.

You put some nice, useful to other people, websites and you sell from them and you link them, you will not have a problem with Google. (Check out the number of sites Amazon.com's has exchange links with.)

I think it's totally up to you how much time you put behind it. If you put a lot of effort behind it, hopefully, you will get a good response.

it s all possible... is it worth it? that is the question... a quick and dirty trick is to run PPC for that keyword before you spend a year optimizing for it

Do you think optimization take a year???

I listen many times in same forums that if you have tricks then site can index within few hours and if you have good ideas and tricks then can rank any types of website (Low competitive or high competitive) within few weeks.

I think dead line of any promotion for brand new site is 3 months to 6 months hardly ... if niche market is very competitive otherwise you can take good position within few weeks.

You can optimize a page and take a coffee break in ten minutes.

      Getting backlinks is harder.

So are getting your strategy right and choosing the right keywords.

Low traffic but low competition keywords is where you should start. And those take from nothing to a couple of weeks to make it to number one.

You're thinking low traffic keywords suck?

20 such keywords @#1 in a couple of weeks can get you 60 to 80 visitors during week 3. And they take up the same resources as the medium competitive keyword with 1000 searches that, on week 3, has barely made it to page 4, so no traffic.

In addition, it makes no business sense to spend a year setting up.

Find another keyword set that looks like:
    • There's a set of 50 keywords all in the same industry
    • Monthly search volume is 100 and less

And rank a good portion of these on the first page of Google.. THEN go after your first list. As Thinkfast mentions you should be able to see results in days or maybe a few weeks at most with this type of keyword set.

The idea behind all of this is to take a new URL and give it an amount of positive rank history that I am guessing increases the unseen DA that in turn will increase your sites overall ability to rank pages.
