Is it OK to have link same color as text?

Hello everyone,

I actually have two questions, but they are pretty simple.

1. Is it OK if I use on my website links with the same color as my basic text is? That would be white. Even on hover nothing changes. Does Google approve this kind of linking? Isnt it considered as deceptive linking or something?

2. And, this is probably a very very stupid question which I know answer to, but I rather want explanantion what Google will do (potentially) with my ranking if I use this. And Im not saying I am so please, dont judge me yet. Its just a question beacuse I dont know how that works.
- What happens if I link some part of text (For example: "You could previously read on our webiste that hamburgers are best." but the "hamburgers are best" would be linked to article with no related meaning at all, lets say "How to take care of cows". How can Google penalise me?

Thanks for any anwers!

Mark

Google does not consider it as a official Link Scheme. However, if they did a manual review and decided at the reviewer's discretion that the link is deceptive then they may take whatever action they feel is necessary. The real question is why you would do something like that in the first place?

Visitor wise, the visitors may not recognize it as a link and may not click on it, so why create the link in the first place?

It may be better to bold and color your links so that they stand out against your non clickable text . Visitors to your sight may not realise that you are linking to another article and thus will be unlikely to click on and visit the linked page . Something Google very possibly looks at is the interest shown by visitors to your pages and the time they spend on those pages . Remember Google closely guards and constantly changes it algo , so whatever most people tell you is speculation unless they are from the Google Algo team , in which case they are unlikely to divulge key info .

First, let me say, I can't imagine a reason why you would do this. Sounds like an on-site SEO strategy from 2007.

To answer your question, I doubt the google algo would penalize this.

To be frank, your asking this question tells me you are focusing on the wrong things.

I agree with culpetm. More than likely "you are focusing on the wrong things".
Confusing your visitors is never a good thing.

I don't think it would be a problem but why would you want to do this? The visitors would likely miss them as links and never click on them.

    Unless it's something sneaky?

It makes the link useless. If you want a visitor to click a link, it should be different from the basic text colour.
For your second question, Google is not going to penalise your site but you will lose the repeat visitors as they will be aware that your links are going to point them in wrong direction.

From what I understand, the link is usually changed to a different color so visitors will recognize it AS a link. I agree with the other answers I've read. If you leave it the same color as the remainder of your text, it will probably never get clicked on.
