Having A Home Based Business

Hello,

My name is Steven and I am new around here. I wanted to bring up a discussion about having a home based business while also working a full time job. My wife and I both work full time and run a jewelry business at the same time. I find it very hard to give much attention to my business as it does not net the profit that I want to and having to work a full time job already I feel like all my time is being taken away.

My question is there anyone else out there that has a full time job but also has some kind of side gig. My main place to do sales is via Facebook live videos. Is there anyone else that faces the same thing that I do and might have some advice.

Ebay is always great for side gigs and this is a thread on this forum dedicated to eBay:
$40 to $250 in hopefully 30 days on eBay

    Good luck.

I think you will find a LOT of members here have full time jobs as well as work online.

I started that way and I know many others who did. It's not easy - and the profit will not be what you want unless you put the time or money in.

If you can afford to outsource some the manual tasks, that will help. By spending a bit on that you will save time for yourself. You have the same amount of time anyone else has - 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week....and TWO people to work on the business which is a plus.

Make a business plan - list specific tasks that must be done daily/weekly/monthly, etc.....set realistic goals and a schedule of who is responsible for doing what...

Set work hours and plan what to do during those work sessions. if you have a commute as well as a job - or children at home - your schedule will not be the same as someone who has less demands on his time.

You have weekends where each of you working 5 hrs a day on the side business - add in 1-2 hrs per weeknight for routine tasks and updates...and it can be manageable. With two people involved you double your hours actually worked which is a good thing.

Treat your home business as a part time job - not as a hobby done when you get around to it. A part time job has tasks and a schedule and goals...and that's how you increase your profit. Automate and outsource when and where you can - prioritize YOUR time and keep growing that business.

You can do this - not easy but well worth it.

You may want to look into , setting aside a budget for outsourcing and paid advertising.
A daily plan/ To do list is needed and following that plan should be your priority.

Focusing on building a list of your jewelry customers is always a great idea and in the long run, it can save you much on ad costs as well. It would give you the ability to directly promote to the customers for nearly free.

You can directly show your offer on FB ads ,however, I would suggest going for these steps for better and long term results.

-Create a lead magnet in form of a Free PDF/ ebook/ picture catalogue. Something of great interest for your potential jewelry customers. Could be outfit ideas to go with the jewelry, evening fashion and matching jewelry. Something that your customers would love to view and provide value and relevant information. You can brainstorm and think of something since you are in jewelry business already.
-Remember not to sell anything at this stage and just focus on delivering it for free in exchange of emails.
-To download the Free eBook, audience will be required to provide their email and name. This opt in form along with landing page can be easily created using any email autoresponder services.
-Your FB or Pinterest ads will acquire such potential customers, they will provides emails, download ebook(lead magnet) happily and get on your email list of your autoresponder.
-You will have to write a persuasive email series that would promote your products. You can start with just a few emails that would be sent as per your preferred frequency. Once scheduled, the autoresponder would send these emails automatically. You can add new designs and new offers as well as more business lines in this email series over time.
-Your job would be to run FB/Pinterest ads and you will let autoresponder do the hardwork. Ofcourse, you will fulfill orders too. Once you scale to an extent you can even outsource order fulfillment to a 3rd party.

It may take 3-4 weeks to create this lead magent, autoresponder and ads setup properly. However, once its completed. Your business would be much straightforward to run and it won't eat up too many hours.
There are 101 ways to market your products though and I have just shown you one.

All the best and I believe you will succeed. If stuck at any stage, you can ask a similar question in this forum. People here want each other to succeed. Cheers.

The above advice is fantastic - found it helpful to slowly read through it myself.

You have weekends where each of you working 5 hrs a day on the side business - add in 1-2 hrs per weeknight for routine tasks and updates...and it can be manageable. With two people involved you double your hours actually worked which is a good thing.
This is good framing: you can very likely "find" 15-20 hours a week; 60-80 hours per month. That's a considerable amount of time to get a LOT done with focused effort.

I have a full time job while I run my side hustle. It's a lot of work, but I like to set a goal to work towards and keep pushing myself daily. In the beginning you won't be making a ton of money, but the more time you put into it the more you will get out of it.

You have to keep pushing every single day. Know what you want and keep pushing. Why are you doing this side business? Is it just for more money? Do you want freedom? Figure out what it is that you want and keep working until you reach your goals and when you reach them set new ones.

It's about building momentum. In the beginning, it's going to be hard to keep pushing especially when you aren't making the big money that you see other people talking about online. The good thing is if you stick with it everyday you will start to figure out things. You will start to see patterns and you will know what works and what doesn't work.

The more you do it, the better you become and the better you become, the more money you're going to make.
