Is it necessary to put featured image on wordpress landing page?

Hi all,

There is an option to put featured image on landinge pages on wordpress sites. The featured image does not appear on the page itself but the image is shown when the link is shared on posts, and other places.

My question is it necessary to put the featured image with Alt text?

Does it impact SEO?

    Technically, It is not necessary to put a featured image on the WordPress landing page. But if I will talk about search engine optimization or search engine visibility so yes, it is necessary to put a featured image with alt text. Alt text defines the search engine what the image is.

    I noticed some themes will give you a double image if you use featured...one big one and one in the post but sometimes featured images on a front page looks darn good just have to work with the options of each theme for looks and SEO.
