I have a blog (link removed by mod) which deals with how-tos articles, I started the blog 5 months ago.

Now I am looking for how to increase the traffic by bringing more traffic from Google, I started by reading a few blog posts online.

However, I couldn't get the desire answers to my question, now what I want to know is how to target low competition keywords.

Since I am just starting, I can't compete with authoritative blogs in the game, that's why I want to start low as possible.

I am open to learning that's why I am posting this, Kindly help me with instructions on how to get long-tail keywords and target less competitive keywords.

If you do a search online for "how to target long tail keywords" you'll find many answers, such as this post by Neil Patel.

You're probably going to need a tool to show you not only what the long tail keywords are, but how competitive they are. Unfortunately, most of the quality tools are not free but if you do a search for "free keyword research tool" you'll probably find something that will work well enough for your needs.

The very first that you need to do is, perform keyword research and notice how your competitors are doing with the keywords. Then choose long-tail keywords that best relevant with your content.

If you find the long-tail keyword you can use the keyword io tool. and if you find low competition keywords use KW finder it's best. I'm also using this

Hi Joshua, there are actually some terrific articles out there on finding long-tail words for your titles and articles. But the only way you will know if you are finding low competition words is through using a good tool. One that I use is Jaaxy and you can try it for free. It will give you a better idea of the competition on keywords and you can change them to see if there is less competition.

It will take you a while to see who your competition is. Once I have checked in Jaaxy I then bring up my title in Google and see how many articles there are. It's a double check.

    Hope this helps.

Although I agree with your approach on checking the actual search results, the number of results does not matter at all. Sometimes, you can rank on page one with 10 million results and other times, you can't crack the top 10 with 20 competing pages. What matters is what those top 10 results are and whether you have any shot at knocking them off their perch, which is a heck of a lot harder for well established, known sites than it is for obscure sites that have not been around that long. The number of unique linking sites those top 10 sites have is an even more major factor.

Hi Dave, valid points you made. What did you mean by "unique linking sites"? Are you talking about backlinks?

        I would appreciate your elucidation.

Yes, I'm talking about backlinks and in this case, from unique domains. Getting 20 backlinks from different pages of the same domain is not the same as getting 20 backlinks from 20 unrelated, completely different domains.

Well you can use keyword tools like keywordtool.io ,wordtracker ,answerthepublic etc . The thing its if you want to get great keywords you need to pay for a pro subscription .I think you should not loose so much time in finding the perfect keywords as you loose a lot of time .I think its better to write as mucj content as you can for low competitoon keywords

Long-tail KWs are specific, targeted, and have low search volume. To find long-tail KW, try the following strategies and long-tail KW tools.

    1. Define Content Purpose
    2. Use Google autofill
    3. Look at Google's related searches
    4. Use Ubersuggest.
    5. Use the LSI Graph Keyword Generator.
    6. Google Keyword Planner
    7. Competitor Keywords
    8. Social Media

After finding long-tail keywords and qualifying them, you need to identify how to use them on your site.

Ubersuggest is a good tool to start out with. It is easy to use and there is free training available. I would suggest going through the training first then subscribing for a month or two to complete your keyword research.
