I'm having trouble with my website

Hello,

My website seemed to be coasting along quite well but know it seems to have nose-dived. I'm having trouble finding out what is causing the loss in traffic and ranking - I have recently updated my content, optimised image, alt tags and started more backlinking but I'm so lost.

Does anyone have any information or tips that could be useful for me?

Many thanks!

Without knowing exactly how you lost your traffic, I'd suggest that you try different sources like:
    • YouTube
    • Forums
    • Social media

Again, without knowing how much traffic you were getting; if I were you I'd look check to see if your pages and posts are SEO ready for them to be indexed in the search engines. It will take time for your site to become established, especially when it comes to getting organic traffic.

So, think about the traffic sources that you're not taking advantage of, write them down, and start using them. As I mentioned, YouTube is going to be a good source of quality traffic over time. I hope this helps!

      Thank you, Peter,

I had no look so far in sorting it out, I've checked search console for manual actions but everything seems to be okay on that end. I really don't know what it could be at this point - I'm currently removing really old content in the hope of bringing back some traffic but I'm at a loss!

        Are we missing something here?

No offense here but based on the traffic graph you had a 4 day spike in traffic. Can you see if this is specifically to a single page? or was it more spread? My guess is you had a page in the Google dance ( got placed in a higher 1st page ranking, got traffic and was then sent back to where it was )

Deleting content is a TERRIBLE idea.. unless you are sure there are issues with it, like not indexing etc - or specifically if you know it is duplicate content.

"Coasting along" is 4 months of steady traffic and not 4 days. You need to figure out which page got the boost, and maybe not correct the page in question but start developing content on the same subject. It is clear that Google is looking for "Better" content...

unfortunately the content you currently have does not meet the needs of the end user. IE Google tried your content in a higher ranking, it got a bunch of "bounce" because it was not answering the end users needs on the subject, so your content was returned to its previous position.

I'd suggest don't focus that much on SEO. Drive paid or organic traffic from social media and you are more in control of your outcome.

Hi Patrick, also keep in mind that Google tweaks their algorithms quite often with no warning and this can effect your traffic. As Peter suggested I would look at the all over quality content which gave you the bump and write more of that.

You are better to write newer quality content than waste time on old content. Unless of course it is so obviously against the newer Google rules to do with keyword stuffing or black hat backlinks. Then you should clean it up but don't delete.

Looks like you just had a good few days. My results in search console are always yo-yoing up and down. Just keep doing what your doing. Writing new content. Learning new skills and try to set yourself targets. Things will get better as long as you keep improving what your doing.
