Is Blog Commenting Still Relevant for Building Backlinks and Referral Traffic?

Even though I am much aware of the fact that search engines are no longer following comments, some bloggers still do blog commenting as a strategy for building backlinks and referral traffic. Is it worth the effort? Will commenting on blogs earn me backlinks and referral traffic?

It's not at all effective for building backlinks and, in fact, overdoing it could lead to a manual penalty. That said, the right blog can definitely bring some very good referral traffic, so if the audience matches, by all means, continue participating in blog or forum discussions.

What a fantastic answer, Dave! I deeply appreciate this. I will do as you advised. Thanks again!

One more question, please? How many forums are ideal to start with? Warrior Forum plus how many more?

As many as you can find that have an audience that would be interested in your products; however, don't ever start off by trying to promote anything. Be someone who is helpful, invaluable to the forum. At some point, most forums allow you to have links in your signature. People who are interested in what you do and the services you offer can click on the links in your signature. Don't ever spam a forum!

I honestly appreciate your candid advice on being helpful while using forums and never having intentions to spam the forum no matter what. I will, of course, keep these in mind for the sake of my own progress in the forum marketing space. Thanks a million times, Dave!

Many people still use blog commenting as a means towards obtaining links as links are seen as votes. Years ago blog commenting use to pass some decent enough link juice but is considered today as an old hack for link building and Google doesn't value comments that much at all. Still, a link from a half decent related site if you can get it is better than no link at all...even if it is at the dead end of the scale,

Many people do all sorts of incredibly stupid, worthless things. That doesn't mean you should. So many things you read, on this forum especially, are based upon practices that stopped working more than a decade ago but the blind continue to lead the blind because they "read it somewhere".

It's possible if we do it the proper way.

There are much better ways than mass blog commenting to build links. It is much better and probably more effective to build fewer and quality links than building dozens of less quality links. Even if you want to do blog commenting choose blogs that are informative, have good readership and traffic, and are relevant to your website.

That's a great idea, thanks! I'll implement it for sure.

It depends, but I wouldn't count on it to be very effective. And it's not worth the effort.

Still, blog commenting is considered a spam backlink because many people create many backlinks on the same website. So, If you want to comment on a blog commenting site then you should keep in mind the relevancy of the website and check the authority of a website and also check previous blog comments on the blog,

Yes it does. I am still using this technique on my amazon affiliate websites . All you need to take care is it should be relevant, value addition to the blog where you are posting. Moreover avoid spammed websites where thousands of comments are done on one post just to count a link.

Hmm, thanks for the amazing idea! I'll keep that in mind while implementing this strategy.
