First steps in the sales world

Hey People,

first things first: i'm from Germany. Means my english ain't that good but i understand everything.

My questions are:
-How do i start in sales?
-Is there a step by step guide what i should learn first etc.?
-Is there a forum in this forum for only sales?

My situation:

I'm 23years old and from Germany. Right now im in my last year in an apprenticeship, but i hate the job. So i started to look for an oppertunity to start in sales since i worked in an sales job before the apprenticeship and i loved it. I loved sales but it was for an insurance company, where i didnt felt authentic. So i look for a new one beside my actual job and i got one as a closer for an instagram sales coach. I selled myself and told him i stuff like that im willing to learn everything and spend all my time to sale shit their. Here i am now with 0.29239 experience trying to sale a 3k Program about sales or mindset without any knowledge. Well that's is not 100% true since ofcourse already spent some time learning from Youtube Vids like from Dan Pena, Jordan Belford and Grant Cardone and reading books like TheFastLane, How to get friends and Letting Go. But i dont get better, i get bitter guys. I need some techniques, a step by step guide what i should concetrate on the next few cold calls and then again and again, you know what i mean?
I asked my boss once and he said "learning by doing" or "the internet is big". He normally helps his clients but since i didnt paid a cent he wont teach me.

Thanks for the help

This entire forum is 'about sales' of one sort or another....suggest you start by reading threads in the offline section....

I would look up posts on the topic by Claude Whitacre and Jason Kanigan.

Do You Want to SEE a Brilliant Salesperson... In ACTION?

Like old Mike Murdock used to say...

"If some people would only think twice, they'd be the smartest person in the group".

I always got a chuckle whenever he said that.

Mike Murdock was one of those Evangelical type pastors on T.V.

Now I'm not a religious person, but I used to watch one or two of these preachers for the brilliant sales lessons they taught.

20 minutes if front of the camera and old Mike would have an entire room full of order taking phones ringing off the hook. Orders for prayers came rolling in starting at $59.00 a prayer.

That's right - In less than half an hour thousands of people would shell out $59, and up, for little more than a temporary feeling that everything'll be alright.

Of course I hold no animosity against any peaceful religion. Most people, including myself, find comfort and purpose when we believe in something bigger than ourselves. And as long as you don't force others against their own peaceful beliefs then I see no reason we can't all get along.

But from a strictly selling point of view, watching old Mike in action was like a religious experience to me.

Some of these T.V. preachers (not all of them, but some of them) are frickin brilliant sales people.

The better ones I've seen have a few traits in common...

They start out slow and methodical with the calm voice of reason, getting attention by telling stories the audience already believes to be true. Then, touching on a few common pain points and fears, they steadily build to a FIERY PASSION filling the room with marvelous stories of hope, just before asking followers to call in and make a donation.

    It was like an infomercial.
But instead of soap, they're selling hope

You know I've written a lot of copy over the past 2 decades, and I've helped sell a lot of products and services. And I can only hope and pray that someday I'll be able to write on paper with the same passion some of these preachers show in front of the camera.

(I'm talking about "skillful passion", not the over-hyped B.S. commonly propagating the internet these days)

Of course these preachers have body language, facial expressions and voice tonality working in their favor. So my dream might be an impossible goal to reach?
But I've always figured if we shoot for the stars we at least end up higher than we started

Anyway, if you really want to see a Brilliant Salesperson, in Action...

Go watch one of the more popular preachers as they strut their stuff.

You don't have to believe in what they're selling, but you can learn a hellavu lot by watching how they do it.

While they are (some anyway) good pitchmen they have something the average salesman doesn't - an already converted, presold audience of mindless followers.

Can't really be compared to selling to a cold, often skeptical audience.

Of course. Knowing your audience is one of the biggest parts of the game.

    hello my german friend haha

apparently I'm not allowed to answer in german although this is not stated anywhere in the rules (adding this might be helpful)

Back to your question....that means you're more the type that wants to talk with others to sell them stuff? If that's the case I'm out of it, I could just put you on the right path if you're interested in affiliate marketing... which is indirectly what you do, except you don't have to talk to anyone in person.

Discussing topics using the common language (English) of the forum ought to be an obvious requirement. No need to add any rule for that.

It's called 'moderator discretion' - if we added everything to the rules that people try to do....the rules would be book length.

Okaaay, already thought to myself that it might be not okay and wanted to be a good boy which is why I opened the rules before submitting but yeah makes sense
