How to monetize / what to sell... in the Personal Development Niche?

I've been doing niche research for the past month to start my first blog. The Personal Development Niche is in my top 3 final choices. The focus in the beginning would be on mindset, self esteem / confidence, basically self actualization topics. I can find plenty of high traffic sites with low DA.

The problem is I can't figure out how to monetize this site. What am I suppose to sell in this market? I can only think of books. Any advice?

Thanks!

You are not doing niche research very well if you haven't included 'what to sell' in the niche ideas.

That is a huge part of deciding what topic/niche to work in. Do you have experience/training in the 'personal development' area? What products have YOU purchased yourself in that niche?

Yeah "niche research" isn't the right term. I was trying to find a niche to blog about and compiled a list of around 30 niches and just started to qualify them, based on monthly volume, DA of the competitors, affiliate programs and products to sell. I found products to sell for the other niches that I'm considering.

What I'm buying in this niche? Books. But I'm also happy to find free reading material and videos on youtube. The thing is, I have a feeling that most "consumers" in this niche don't have specific buying intent, but maybe I'm missing something.

I'm just considering this niche, as I can think of a lot of topics to write about, there seems to be good traffic and it's a personal interest of mine.

There area few options for monetization:
    1. Affiliate links/courses (search for affiliates in your niche on affiliate marketplaces)
    2. Creating and selling your own info products/courses
    3. A blog with display ads

Find personal development courses, become an affiliate. Tony Robbins has this: https://store.tonyrobbins.com/collections/all.

He probably has more. Don't know that he has an affiliate program; just an example of what's out there.

Lots of people who're looking to improve themselves consider exercising as part of what they need to do, so you could sell things in that area, including exercise equipment and diet programs.

Some people's self-improvement includes financial improvement, so you can sell them some finance stuff (not how to buy bitcoin, perhaps, but how to get ready for retirement, for having kids).

Thanks a lot for your ideas. I was actually planning to branch out to other personal development topics such as finances, relationships later on so it will make sense in the future. But when I start with Self Actualization topics, there seems to be only books and courses.

The good news is that you are targeting a ridiculously lucrative niche/market.

I do not do niche research as passionately as I do Proven Success Research.

They give you the best free education you could wish for.

Find out who is crushing it already. Zoom in to not just mindset...mindset for what? Money? Discipline? Learning to delegate? Outsource? How to treat people? How to Motivate your employees? Could go on to infinity.

Do not just see who is crushing pay attention to how....webinars? YouTube? Offline? Video products? Memberships?

Research that and emulate that as best you can on your budget and skills and I am sure you are going to be in a great environment in the end.

Make the following point to finalize your niche or product which you want to sell.
1: Narrow down your niche or product
2: Make analytical report either this niche or product fulfil the need of public or a huge traffic looking forward such type of product
    3: create attractive advertise message
4: ensure the public this product or niche would be solution of all their problem or need.

Before doing any research and going straight away to monetize and selling product online is big mistake in my opinion, I always prefer Niche research find some micro niches and then get LSI keywords and then informational keyword related to that niches then I start a blog or selling my product.TommyPet Russia

Yes I wasn't planning to sell stuff right away. I just want to figure out the monetization part, so I can compare it with the other niches on my list and decide which to pick.

Books (especially audiobooks), courses, and life coaching are the best sellers for the clients I've worked with in the personal development field.

But finding a product to sell is not your biggest hurdle...

    Credibility is the bigger issue.

The clients I work with all have followings of people who know and trust them. They don't have Tony Robbins size followings, but they still have thousands of people who know and trust them. And hundreds of people who regularly open their emails and respond to them on social.

You can still make sales without a loyal following, but it'll be more like a trickle than a flood.

    Simply put...

With a following you can make a boat load of money in this field. Without a following you'll be just another self help snake oil salesman in a sea full of woo woo gurus.

So the first question you need to answer is the same one your potential customers will ask... "Why should I buy from Nayr Amir?"

Who are you, and why should I give you money for something I can probably get for free on youtube, or a dozen other places?

My best recommendation for anyone just starting out...

If you want to sell a ton of product you need to either spend time developing yourself as a trusted source, or you'll need to hitch your wagon to an influencer who already has a huge following.

Like if Tony Robbins recommended your product to his followers you could make a million dollars next month.

But on your own, it'll take some time to build your credibility if you want to make any real money in the personal development arena.

That's a very good point. I will definitely have to plan how to improve my credibility.

One needs to ASSUME that YOU have an interest on the topic... so the answer to your question is what have you bought or what would you buy?

When picking a "Niche" start with YOU... and go from there. If YOU are interested in X so are thousands, if not millions of people interested just like you.

Right now, it seems you are chasing dollars and in no way considering what it is YOU can bring to the table.. because THAT is where the money is - what YOU bring to the table.

    1) 365 day "quote of the day" calendars

    2) Mugs

    3) T-shirts

    4) You can run a Youtube channel and monetize via Adsense

    5) Meditation CD's and DVD's

    6) Become an affiliate for Gaia

Just some ideas to get you started

You can monetize the site with affiliate links and Ad display. Search for personal development programs. Most of them will have some kind of affiliate programs. Also check ezoic for Ad display.

You could monetize it through selling books definitely, especially if you find some topics that haven't been covered yet and start offering that to the audience. But, besides this, you could also try with some affiliate links, look to find some networks that work in this niche or that have some offers for micro-niches in personal development, as this could also be a good thing for monetization. Some blog articles about this which you would later promote extensively across various platforms and where you could offer some advertising space can also be something to take into the consideration.

Start with affiliate marketing. Prove that you can successfully sell someone else's product before you invest in creating your own.

Sign up form cj.com affiliate network. As far as I know, there are a lot of advertisers. Those services pay good commissions per lead regarding self-care, mindset, confidence and other.

As someone invested in this topic, I found most of the people who inspire me from YouTube. This is just a capsule for thought, but I think investing some of your time in developing content for either a Youtube channel or other social media platform would give you the credibility and viewer engagement that can help you with enlarging your blog presence. There are many success stories in this area (Anh Lin, The Cottage Fairy etc.), and I found their blog after watching their life and listening to their thoughts.

In their cases, meditation, pottery and art are the focus areas for inducing calmness and motivating personal development in their viewers. And without much of product promotion, they are able to convince people to give their art or meditation podcast a try as sources to promote a healthy habits or peacefulness.

Maybe you can also include these social media channels as auxiliary to your main blog?
