Well isn't this site a welcome find.

Hey,

So, I am a network engineer, web designer, PC maintenance/repair/build.

Pre Covid I was based in a co working office space with a family friend. He decided to up and off to live in mainland Europe. He left me a good amount of his hardware to repurpose, use, sell - whatever.

In this hardware there is about 15 files, hundreds of thousands of emails with names and opt in confirmations, ip logs etc of sign up.

I've asked him what I should do with the info - he doesn't care. He said "work the data, sell it, delete it. I'm not going to use it again"

Seems like a bit of a gift horse really so id like to make the most of it, if I can!

Any advice where to start?

First of all, you need to be very clear about the niche, the niche market and the type of service these leads originally signed up for. Once you know the exact category these leads belong to, you can start thinking and looking for what service, what good product, what affiliate program you could suitably offer these leads to improve their lives.

So if you have a good product and the right interested audience there is nothing stopping you from using the contact details and uploading them to an appropriate email marketing service and writing these leads very honest emails about where you got their contact details, who you are and what you can offer them from now on in terms of added value.

If for some reason there is no product/service in the niche that you could offer them then of course you can also try to get these contacts interested in another niche. For example making money online. For some reason most people are usually directly or indirectly interested in something like that. Could work at least. But that would only be a workaround, of course, try it with the original niche first.

You can first wonder why he would place little value on it and what it was used for specifically.

There is a sort of new...always evolving platform called Groove finally officially out of it's "Beta" that rolled out a free email autoresponder and immediately got blacklisted. Have to be careful.

They are not your names and email addresses. In fact these people have no idea of who you are. I would suggest starting from scratch building your own email list. For all you know those names and leads on the computer could be super dead.
