Blog Migraine, Should I Give Up?

by 56 replies

3 days back, out of really being desperate and not knowing how to earn a buck, I decided to give my heart and soul into setting up a blog.

No cash, so I used free blogger.

So, I wrote my first article.
Then 2 more in 24 hours.
I got 81 views in 24 hours.

So, I said I sucked at this.

I wrote 3 more articles and got another 81 views.
On the 3rd day, I wrote 4 articles and got 114 views.

Today I wrote 3 more articles and have 93 views till now.
So totally in 4 days, I got 369 views.

As you can see, the views I have got are pathetic.

How can I earn from this?

People get thousands and millions of views.

I guess I am a failure.

Plus, I have got a migraine dong this, as I cannot get any traffic.

Should I give up?
Please advise, it will really be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Ric,

The problem is your mindset. The solution is to face your fears in order to see blogging as a fun way to patiently help people, to profit over the long term, versus being a quick and easy way to make money.

Right now, if your fear, deep fears of poverty and scarcity sit. This is why you wrote:

"really being desperate and not knowing how to earn a buck"

Until you face, feel and release deep poverty fears, literally, virtually everything you see and do in life will be framed as:

"really being desperate and not knowing how to earn a buck"

You will struggle to make money with every venture not because of:

    - what you do
    - the strategies you use

but because of how your mind thinks, feels and acts.

Plus, with your current mindset, you will think upside down and actually reject money-making advice to accept money-losing advice. For example, I would advise you to spend 4-6 hours writing an SEO-optimized, 1500 word blog post to drive targeted traffic but if your mind seems filled with fear it ignores this advice because:

    - it would lead to slow, steady success
    - it would lead to slow, steady profits

The reason? Fear in your mind says that 5 hours is too long of a time to publish 1 post. This is the common self-sabotage that most bloggers engage in before they quit. They only do what fails *now and forever* because their scared minds reject what succeeds over the long haul.

Consider training your mind, now. Then, get back to blogging in a few days with a slightly fresh, relaxed, abundant perspective.

In the meantime, if you really need money now to survive get a job or ask for a loan.

Blogging is a long term business model not a short term money solution. Train your mind to see this and you will get the money you need through different channels while approaching blogging patiently, persistently and generously, in terms of your mindset and level of service.

    • Hi Ryan.
Thanks a zillion for the long and elaborate response.
Really appreciate the time and trouble you took to reply and give me advice.
Your replies are always very nice.
You had replied to me some time back when I had left a comment to your comment on the blog of Adrienne Smith.
Remember her? She was very nice and she used to get thousands of blog comments each month.
Why did she shut down? Do you know?
      I don't take loans, I can't repay them.
I do have a job, I write content for blogs of people - working from home.
      Work is hard to get.
But it is what it is!
      Thanks Ryan.
      You are a great guy!
      Best wishes and regards.

Hard for me to believe anyone expects success and money in 3 days. Perhaps rethink your time frame expectations and set realistic goals for 3 months, 6 months, one year.....

  • Pathetic is 0 views after 1 year - AWESOME is 369 views in 4 days.

You projected "views" for the month is 3000? and you have a headache?

If you write ONE article per day for the next 26 days... should throw you over the 10,000 views in a month category.

Like Jason said...its a long game and your 4 days in... just keep writing - just ONE a day ( for the next 361 days ) dont burn yourself out.

    • Oh WOW!
      Seriously?
      AWESOME???
      Really??
      I am flattered!
I hear of people getting 10,000 views per day and more -
and I found that my views are pathetic compared to them.
So, I said this, that I have a migraine - I still have it though!
It is playing on my mind that I am getting such less views.
But your answer brings me solace.
If I write one article every day for 26 days, can I really get 10,000 views in a month?
      Is it possible?
What if I wrote a minimum of 3 articles a day for 30 days?
How much traffic can I expect?
Your reply will really help me.
Thanks a million, appreciate your response and your kind words of encouragement.
      Best wishes and regards.

  • Blogging is not a quick rich scheme, it needs patience and consistency. People who are getting millions of views have started blogging decades ago they are on this stage after a lot of patience and struggle. you should set some realistic goals for six months or one year and follow to achieve that goals, you will definitely succeed, but be realistic.

  • Hello Ric,

First of all, thank you for being so brave to share this. Many struggle with even admitting how they're feeling (believe me you're not alone!), so well done.

It's clear you're open to being helped. That's great.

As Ryan said yesterday, you need to make sure your head and your heart are in the right place.

Like any worthwhile skill, it is essential you play the long game, be committed to blogging for months and years, not days and weeks. Your numbers, by the way, are not as bad as you make out. You're making a contribution and will be helping people, so congratulate yourself for that.

    DEFINITELY DO NOT GIVE UP!

It's also worth checking out what other successful bloggers are doing, you can invest in some courses if you need help and it's great you're using this forum to ask for help (again, most are too proud to ask for help, they give up and miss out on sharing their talent.)

What I would also say is pace yourself. You're trying to do too much at once.

I write a personal blog every day (and use that content for Social Media posts on the usual places like Facebook/Instagram) but for my professional blog, I post once per week.

Find a schedule you can stick to consistently. When people visit your blog they are looking for useful information they can implement, so if you post less often but consistently with valuable posts, they will keep coming back to you.

You're already doing a great job having start, be steady and focus on your long-term goals.

  • Day 5 and this is how my blog is faring...

I am trying to share an image of a screenshot of the traffic stats for my blog, but am unable to do so.
Can anyone please guide me how to?
Or am I not allowed to?
    Thanks.
  • Screenshots don't always work here....at any rate 5 days in is still 'no time at all'. You need to be looking at your numbers by week or month...not by days.

One thing you NEED TO DO - hold your cursor on your 'forum name' in the black toolbar and click on 'view classic' in the 'gold box'...that will allow you to easily quote and answer several people in one post instead of 'serial' posting.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

      Sorry for the inconvenience!
  • No problem at all - the forum 'default' is the hard one to use....the 'classic' makes posting easier. thanks

  • Where are these "hits" coming from? It's unlikely you are receiving traffic from search engines with a new blog. Are you sharing posts on social media?

"Hits" in and of themselves are meaningless. Are they real humans? Where do they come from, how long do they stay on your page?

What are you using for analytics? I don't want to discourage you as you seem industrious but if you are depending on Blogger analytics you are not seeing an accurate picture.

From my many years of experience I would guess most of your hits are from bots.

You can use other analytics on Blogger. There are some that offer a free tier usually dependant on number of page views. I suggest you first get more accurate data.

    • The OP coolly ASSumes the hits are from bots!

  • Hey
I don't think that success comes in 3 days or in a week. It takes alot of time and consistency. People having mllions of views has started with 50, 60 views but their determination make them millioner. So it needs hard work and consistency.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • "The perfect way to discourage newbies who are struggling!
The OP coolly ASSumes the hits are from bots!
    Amazing response!"

First of all, you are the OP (original poster), so you got that wrong.

Second I state very clearly "I'm not trying to discourage you" because I'm not, so you got that wrong.

So tell me where are your hits coming from.

My response was based on experience. I've built hundreds of websites and have spent thousands of hours analyzing data collected.

I used blogger back in 08-09 and know their analytics are notoriously inaccurate.

But hey, I didn't try to fill you with "atta newbie" like others did, just give you accurate information that could serve you well should you choose.

    What a jerk I am!

    • Hi Kay King.
As you have said to keep you all updated on how it goes, I am sharing this.
I had shared this a few minutes back, but a mod deleted it saying:
"no links in posts - threads are not to be a daily 'journal'"
So now I am puzzled as to how to share this.
I am trying again and I hope the mods accept this post as I am only sharing it as you had said to keep you all updated.
      So, here goes once again...
To date, this is where my hits are coming from:

  • WriterRic -

It is counter productive (for you) to post an issue/question and become angry with the first person that is skeptical or posts something you don't like.

You are getting answers from people who have HAD many sites launched and had successful sites. Learn from them even when you don't like the answer.

I've launched over 200 sites and not ONE has gotten that sort of traffic in 4 days....if it did I would probably 'assume' bots. As you are posting on social media (linking back to your site I assume) - that could be where the traffic comes from. If you had a domain and your own hosting you could see where the visits are coming from - I don't believe you have that option with free WP but I could be wrong about that.

Regardless - you have visitors so you ARE 'getting the word out'....keep going!

I am planning to post on Quora.
But I have my reservations about it.
Currently most of my traffic is from US and UK.
    And the rest from...
France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and other parts of Europe.
I am also getting traffic from India.
I am against posting on Quora, as I will get more Indian traffic from there as I am from India.
And I do not want Indian traffic as if I opt for CPM offers, I will not get a high conversion rate.
But, still too early to think of CPM and the like.
Just wanted you to know about Quora.
I write under a Pen Name there and I have over 5 million views and 10,000 Plus followers on it.

  • Before deciding to give up on blogging, you should first acknowledge the time and effort you've invested into the blog.

In case you're wondering whether to give up or not, keep in mind that building a successful blog takes a lot of time. In fact, statistics show that a large percentage of users leave a website without returning.

Therefore, building a list of subscribers is an essential step in growing your blog's audience. Aside from creating a list of potential readers, building an email list is one of the easiest ways to keep in touch with those who might be interested in your blog.

Pick a niche you can stick with. A profitable niche may be tempting, but once you've lost the initial motivation, you might find that you're not enjoying the content anymore.

If you are new to blogging, try joining a business Facebook group. It doesn't hurt to seek advice from others who have already succeeded in building their business.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • No you shouldn't give up .You are comparing yourself to others instead of learning from them .

You need to create a balance and set a blogging schedule that you can stick to .The way that you are doing it now will exhaust you and burn you out .

So instead of writing 3 -4 blog post per day spend some time repurposing that content and sharing it on different mediums. .

So focus on content distribution i.e sharing it and more importantly providing valuable unique content .

Lastly ,don't focus on making money right now but focus on connecting and building community .

There are a different ways of connecting with your tribe so keep it simple but be creative .

  • I think you should give it more time. Making is not a piece of cake, the hustle is real. Plus, you dont just get views on your blog from out of the blue you need to have certain practices in place to make sure you get to your audience. I am not sure if you've ever heard of SEO. Try learning that and you'll feel the difference yourself.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • 1 week, 836 views.

  • I really believe for anyone to be successful online especially in blogging, you need to think long term, stay focused and be consistent.

If you ask me, I will say you are doing just great with over 300 views in 4 days after 4 posts. That's s good beginning.

Just keep going and give yourself a one year span to grow in the blogging business.

Also, try to take aways the mindset of get rich quick or a million view over night.

Rather, try to enjoy your writing and look for ways of adding value to people through your blog posts, that way, the view will increase and you will end up building an authority blog and not just another regular blog.

  • I have read numerous times that by writing unique content and posting that on social networks, the number of views starts to grow.
    Is this really so?
'Coz for now, I am having a tough time getting views. And the number of views does not grow.
Fact is, the day I don't post on social media, I get as good as ZERO views.
    So how does it work?
How do blog hits start to grow?
It is really depressing to keep writing unique SEO content day after day -
Finding the right long tail KWs.
    Researching the topics.
And then sharing and re-sharing on Social Media -
And the hits just don't seem to grow.
    Can anyone please enlighten me?
    Will really appreciate it.

  • Beginning to think the answer may be 'no'. You have a 10 day old blog. You have BARELY started and you are complaining about the process that many bloggers use for months or years. You have been told by several members the results you are getting early on are excellent but you seem to ignore that. For most, such a high number of visitors on a brand new blog would be motivating and they would double down on their efforts.s Your expectations are too high at this stage of your blog.

The threads listed above were for you to read through and learn from...one of the first posts is about time and patience (by RyanB)

Other posts in those threads outline exact steps you can to take to build and promote your blog. You are posting on social media - but there are other steps recommended in those threads that you may not have tried yet.

It does not matter how many times you ask the same questions - you have a NEW blog. If you are tired of working on it this quickly - blogging may not be what you want to do long term.

The good news is if blogging is not your 'thing' you have not wasted much time on it. The bad news is if you want a successful blog you have a long way to go...that's how it works.

    • Not sure what you expect anyone to say. You've had a lot of advice about the blog you started (still less than one month ago)...and now you consider abandoning it to go back to a block you abandoned in the past.

It doesn't make any sense. Why would you abandon a blog that is WORKING WELL for a new blog...that is really an old blog on the same free platform?

Common sense is to build up both blogs if you have the time - if not enough time, stick with the one you started last month.

  • Hi Ric, You shouldn't stop writing blogs, in my opinion. Writing is a labor-intensive process*itself, and blogging adds a requirement to write on topics that are popular and in-demand. Additionally, you stop exhausting*yourself by writing three to four articles per day. The process of marketing takes time, so you should maintain your calm and be constant in your efforts.

  • Hi Friends.
I was searching for stuff on my PC and came across an old file of mine, which had the log in of an old blog of mine - which I had forgotten as I had not gotten views and stopped work on it.
    This was yesterday.
I had started this blog on August 2021, but I gave up as I did not get views.
This blog has only 5 posts on it.
I decided to try an experiment and quickly wrote a post and posted it.
This morning and now too, I am shocked to see the results.
When I checked the stats this morning, the blog had got 203 views yesterday.
Today, it has got 240 views so far - and I did not do any promotion for it.
That single post that I wrote yesterday, has gotten me 315 views so far.
Last month views (without posting and without any promotion): 642
This month views (after posting 1 article and promotion): 873
This month views (without posting and without any promotion): 558
    I am absolutely shocked!
Also, this is again a free blogger blog.
Just wanted to share this with you all.
My dilemma: Go with the old blog or the new one?
    Please guide, will appreciate.

    Thanks.
    Ric
PS: I tried to upload a pix for proof, but I am not able to.
