Amount of CTA's on a page

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for how many Call To Actions are optimal for a website page? I have a site which is very basic and people come to get info in the form of a download. I have a CTA at the top and then halfway down the page and again at the bottom. This is common for most of the pages and they average about 1000 words per page. Is this too many CTA's or too few? I'm thinking about doing some A/B testing on this but thought i'd see what everyone things before settling on my two testing versions.

    IMO I don't think that's too many, do you have also CTA in the text? Like with hyperlink?

      No, I hadn't thought about hyperlinks. Not sure why! I'll go add some of those in as well. Good idea.

    Testing is really the only answer. Everyone's experience will differ, depending on the context.

    Also be sure to test the positioning and wording as well as the number of CTAs.

      Good point. I'm thinking of testing the number of cta's first and then other variables like wording. Otherwise I think it'll be hard to work out what part/change made a difference. Could be a lot of testing!
