How do I get freelance writing opportunities?

I learned about freelance writing in October 2021 and I got interested because I love writing. It would be a good thing to make money while doing something you love, right?

So, I started reading books, watching videos, and listening to podcasts to learn more about freelance writing and to also land gigs. I even signed up on Upwork and ProBlogger
I have applied all the knowledge I have gathered from my learning activities but I haven't landed a single writing opportunity and I don't know what else to do...

How do I land freelance writing opportunities?

Sign up to more freelancing sites and write a complete description of your services. If possible provide samples of your work so people can see the style and quality of your writing. I would also advise that you start your own website and promote/market your freelance writing services on there. You'll be able to charge more with your own website.

      Thanks, Randall for the advice.
I will sign up for more freelancing websites and hope that helps.
I have started my website on WordPress but I'm still working on it though.

Randall gave you some good advice. More specifically you can sign up on Freelancer.com as a writer. They currently own this forum - https://www.freelancer.com/ You can also look at the Marketplace here on this forum, look for the members looking to hire section.

Make sure you visit the rules if you had not had the chance. https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...nes-rules.html

    Finally welcome to the forum.

what you've done is right, go to upwork etc.
    but...
landing a client is DIFFERENT than 'do the writing work'.
To land a client, you need to do the 'numbers game'.

Don't forget that bro. Wish you finishing 2022 strong with successful freelancing journey.

Apply for writing jobs via freelancing websites. First of everything comes your bio. Provide a clean description of your writing services plus a specimen of your writing at the top freelancing websites. Let them know about your interest in writing and about your writing skills. Although it takes time, freelancing is quite a good occupation.

You should know where to look...
You should know how to promote yourself...
And you should know how to differentiate yourself from your fellow writers.
Then you will get more jobs from freelancers.

Whatever platform you use, you'll struggle to find your first job. There are already established writers on each platform with reviews and everything, so you'll have to fight your way to finding your first job. No cutting corners here. That being said, you're gonna need to make a killer bio and provide samples of your work. Someone mentioned making a website, that's a way to go, but there are also some free writer portfolio websites that will do the work as well. GL

I have started my website on WordPress but I'm still working on it though.

That's a good idea for the future...but getting visitors, etc to your site is a long term effort.

Join several freelancer sites, fill out your profile completely, write some 'sample article/paragraphs' to submit as a text with every bid you make on the freelance sites.

Then - BID like crazy - submit 50 or more bids a day and you will begin to get some work. Be realistic about the price you can ask as a beginner...make certain to complete every job you get on time to build a rating.

There is no substitute for submitting dozens and dozens of bids.

simply create profiles to the freelancing sites, highlight your writing skills in profile descriptions, and make sure you optimize your profile according to your service. This will help you find a job on freelancing sites.

Surely you noticed the ellipsis at the end of the 4th sentence in the original post! And that the writing flows, right?

Whoever wants writing that flows from a writer?

And don't let me start on ellipsis!

In other words, Mia has only 3 posts to her name and, having heard that you must have tons of posts to get people to notice you, she posted. Because the people who tell you you need a lot of posts don't talk about post quality, just numbers. How was Mia to know?

My writing is atrocious, something that hinders me, but, even I could see how you had no business telling this person to learn to write better.
Try adding value to people instead.

Join with more freelance websites and create a detailed profile of your services. Give people copies of your work, if you can, so they can see the tone and level of your writing. You should launch your own website and sell and market your freelance writing services there, too, in my view.

Firstly, make your portfolio and add some best articles of your writing into it. After that, sign up on online freelance platforms and start pitching the clients over there. Therefore, you can also run some ads on social media platforms. This will help you to get some work after doing these things.

There are many different methods that you can use to land writing work...

The methods you have chosen so far are highly competitive. This means you need to have a good portfolio and competitive pricing. You haven't mentioned if you have managed to build a portfolio or not? Without one, I doubt anyone will take a gamble on hiring you.

With that in mind, I'd recommend doing a few pieces of writing for free for good clients.

My definition of a good client is a company doing business in an area you are knowledgeable about or interested in, who are turning over at least in the tens of millions.

By doing free work for them, you are building a portfolio which consists of work for companies that people know, which helps you get selected on sites like Upwork. In addition, you are building relationships with these big companies, many of which will hire you for paid work going forward, providing you do a good job. It's the law of reciprocity.

The best way to get in with them is find writing on their collateral - websites, emails, letters - that you feel you can improve. Scour Linkedin for connections in their marketing team and reach out with ideas and samples. You would be surprised how many replies you will receive when you provide real value to people while expecting nothing in return.

    Best wishes,
    PP

There are a number of ways to get freelance writing opportunities. One way is to search for them online.
Just give a google search "Freelance writing jobs"
If you are a total beginner I would suggest you work on fiverr (just google search the website). Follow these steps.
    1. Search for writing jobs on fiverr
    2. Look out for the most attractive gig.
    3. Try to get inspiration on how to develop and create your own gig.
    4. Publish your gig.
    5. Now go to Facebook and search for content writing groups.
    6. You can then post your gig in various facebook groups.
    7. rinse and repeat these steps in other social media websites, forums, quora.com etc.
Another way to find freelance writing opportunities is to contact companies directly and inquire about opportunities.
There are many websites that allow paid guest posts that will pay you to the upwards of $150 for a piece of article which is 1000+ words.
Finally, you can also network with other writers and professionals in your field to find out about potential writing opportunities.

Right, sure there are....for those experienced in freelancing and in writing. I doubt very much that someone asking HOW to get 'writing opportunities' is at that level.
