  • One problem in this space is the overemphasis on marketing. You have failing marketers wasting time on the "One funnel Away" challenge before they have a product, understand offer creation, or know anything about the technical setup.

In my own experience, I think the biggest challenges most face are:

    1) Market Fit

There have been two occasions that I have lost the b in who I was targeting for my customer profile, and both times it changed the course of the business. Market Fit is one that makes or breaks your campaign. You may already know the challenges of a specific niche and that's great. If not, spend some time identifying this by researching, talking, and trusting your intuition.

    2) Attention / Authority

-At the end of the day, why would someone pick to buy from you over the 500 other offers they have seen that day. Here's a big secret to remember: In this space, being different > Being good.

It's great to be try and be the highest quality you can be in life, I am only referring to different being better than good when you are in a crowded industry. *Trying something different gives people "HOPE" it will work for them. And that is a significant driver to purchase.

Spend time on that. Write your copy the same way you talk, and use short sentences. And start having live links to buy. The marketing can always be optimized later.

Have you used the Search feature here on the forum?

Everything breaks down to two things: Traffic and Conversion.

    You need eyeballs from somewhere.

Those eyeballs need to look at your offer, which is presented in the form of a Conversion tool.

Some of those eyeballs will be Converted into buyers.

Got it? There's nothing more complicated than that.

What you do to generate the Traffic...

    ...how you present the Conversion...

    ...that's the complication.

Is there an area you'd like to specialize in?

After more than a dozen years, I'm good at Conversion... Traffic generation is not my thing. I can tell you how many and what they need to look like, but I don't know where to get them from. When I log into the google analytics platform it makes my eyes cross--and it shouldn't, I'm a math guy and like graphs, but there it is. I'll look at that UI when I have to, but I just don't like it.

And who do you apply your digital marketing skills for?

    Yourself?

    A customer?

You can get really specialized. There are guys who only do copywriting (Conversion) for ecommerce companies (one type of client). And they add a ton of value and are treated by rockstars by their clients. BUT--that customer has to have their business operating well already: they must have Traffic and Conversion figured out to some degree to begin with, or that copywriter won't have much impact.

It's all up to you. That can be scary for people. You get to choose. There is no One Right Way, no single proven path to success. If success was mechanical, everyone would be successful. It's simply not. There's an "It" factor, which I can attribute mostly to YOU. Do you believe success comes from within you? Or is it some external thing you have to go hunt down?

I've watched some folks stay broke for an entire decade now, feeling success is something from outside of themselves. They chase shiny object after shiny object, never developing any knowledge or skill, always believing the gurus are hiding things from them. All a lie.

    Learn Traffic.

    Learn Conversion.

You don't have to know everything to contribute, to do well.

You can get other parts of T&C from other people. Joint ventures. Paid traffic. Hired copywriters. Commission salespeople.

Too many options for many people, I get that. But this is the world you've chosen to play in.

First thing, copy and paste the Jason Kanigan post about traffic/conversions, start a journal, or document to keep the good advice.

I think before you get to the traffic/conversion state, you must look through that to see the underlying ideas.

You need SOMETHING to sell, the thing you OFFER to traffic.

You need A PLACE to sell the THING.

You need a way to take their money at the place.

You need to get PEOPLE to that place (the traffic part).

You need an offer to this traffic and results (conversion).

Two BASIC ways to go about this.

Start with a product, which most people don't have OR start with PEOPLE, a group of them which have an interest in something.

The NO product people will usually choose AFFILIATE marketing to start, selling products of other people, such as happens at warrior plus, clickbank, jv zoo, etc.

The PROBLEM with affiliate for beginners is you have no TRAFFIC and don't know how to get it. And you have a lot of competition from other affiliates selling the same thing.

OR, you can start with people. For example, as a golf instructor, I may start with finding golf related products by either acquisition or creation, and then finding the many groups already out there buying golf related products.

So, to start with, START A DOCUMENT where you can keep all of this good advice, maybe Google Docs, it is free.

Then do a pros and cons list of any ideas you may have...do you have a hobby, or skills and experiences, maybe you can start with the group you already belong too.

How much TIME do you actually have, and I've got 40 years of experience that says you will OVERestimate this figure, you do NOT have as much time as you think you do.

Once you write down some of the possibilities, you have to choose to do a PRODUCT first or a PROSPECT first venture for your IM.

These are the basics, and as Jason said, use the search feature of this forum to find decades of solid advice from successful Internet Marketers.

Thanks Kay, gives me a chance to do a mini rant, and maybe also, show new Warriors what the process could be...maybe.

We've had a rash of first time and even old returning Warriors post, most seeking guidance or answers, then POOF, in a cloud of mist, they disappear.

So, I'm going to play the role of the OP (for this one night only) and ask the kind of questions which can be of help to others.

AS the OP. OK, I need traffic and conversions, and I need a product to sell and someone to sell it too.

I get this, where do I start, and there are so many WSO's here that seem to offer a done for me solution, but they cost money, and I need to start now, without any money to spend, what is NEXT?

Good question OP. Here are some more good questions you COULD ask, if you ever come back:

What is the fastest product to get?

WF successes answer: You can create or acquire your first THING to sell. As stated, you can sell someone's product/service as an AFFILIATE, but there isn't really a speedy way to do it, that takes time.

The ABSOLUTE fastest product to create is.... TALKING. Talk on a podcast, talk into a recorder, talk about something you know, can do, or even want to know.

YOU op or any Warrior reading this, can create a product in minutes by talking into a microphone, all phones and most all computers have them...and by using free software, or trial versions, if you want....you can have your talk transcribed into writing.

And there is the FASTEST POSSIBLE product known, when you choose to create. You may acquire via affiliate or JV marketing, or searching, but some of these acquired products have to be paid for up front. Again, it makes the affiliate aspect so appealing to many cash strapped new to IM types.

All the tools are free to use. I once created a product in 7 minutes, a mini course on a part of the golf swing, had it transcribed, made it pretty with a couple of pics and took it to the market place, in less than an hour, and made sales shortly after that. Using a free site (drop box) to host the pdf file, and a signature link, here they cost 5 bux, and if you don't have 5 to invest, maybe it isn't a good time to start, eh?

So, you need a product. You need a place. You need a promotion. You need Prospects.

Then you focus on TRAFFIC and CONVERSIONS.

And most importantly, if you ask one question here, then be prepared to ask more, and if you don't know what to ask, here is a little guide for you.

Ask HOW? WHY? WHAT? WHEN? WHO?

Then build on the answers you get, or just go on and waste more time than you need to, after all, it is your time.

Any further questions from OP or otherwise, or shall this thread join the graveyard of questions asked by fleeing Weekend Warriors??

  • I found that YouTube is a great source for learning about digital marketing. There are a ton of videos that actually can be helpful (I would stick with videos that have gotten a lot of views).

At the end of the day, digital marketing is a method where you can promote your business (or a client's business) on a computer, phone, social platforms, website, ads, etc.

I would start off with the basics such as a great website or landing page. Since many of the digital strategies all lead the customer back to some kind of offer or information - a solid website/message is key.

Good luck and enjoy the journey!

  • First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their contributions.
After looking at all the responses, I was able to get a brief idea of this vast field.
I mean there is a lot to learn, but I am a beginner, I want to keep learning about DM, but I don't know where and what to start with !!!
For example, I started with the basics of marketing (positioning, segmentation, targeting..), then moved on to digital marketing, what I noticed is that I need to focus on learning first (SEO, Social Media marketing and Content marketing).

My question is : I'm I on the right path?

As far as my goal of learning about digital marketing:
    1) learning for learning's sake, just to gain new skills and develop myself (why not in the long run get a job in this field).
    2) for the short term, I'm thinking of creating my own website to sell services for tourists or create an online store for producs.
(These 2 ideas are going to be my drafts)

Are you on the right path?

Can't tell you. You would need to provide more info.

On the other hand, you can tell.

Have you done a detailed assessment if your skills, likes, dislikes, wants?

If not, that's your first step.

Marketing is awfully simple but not awfully easy.

Do, you build a website to sell things to tourists.

1.How will tourists find your site?
2.Why will they buy from you?

To answer those, you need to know which tourists you are after and have a good unique selling proposition and the ability to convey trust.

Do not go after all tourists, you will have a hard time.

Even if you go only after tourists to a particular location, Grand Canyon, say, you should narrow your focus more: men 50 or over, women under 25. Then add interests.

Why? Because you need to talk to them differently if you are to make good money.

Easiest group would be one you belong to. If they 'tourist.'

Next step is to figure what they want.

Next to set up your site in a way that they, not me or a general person, finds easy to use and convincing.

      Next: show them your site.

If you understand them well, all steps are easier.

      So, who are you after?
      What do they want?
How do they find your sales page?
Why would they buy from you, when there's Amazon.com and ebay.com?

And, now, the most important question:
Why create your own site when there is ebay.com and other such markets that have taken care for you of a lot (they have the traffic and trust). You still have to drive that traffic and extend the trust to your listings, but that's less work.

Look up Savidged4 in this forum... He started a thread about selling on ebay. It's got all you need to make it. https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...days-ebay.html.

If it can be sold on Ebay or Etsy or some other such platform, I'd start there and on social media.

If you break down what, how, where and who you want to sell, it will be a lot easier to narrow down and organize your studying so you don't get confused. There are far too many things to learn in digital marketing in it's entirety. So if you know what type of digital marketing you want to learn specifically after you ask yourself the what, how, where and who, then you can ask specific questions and get specific answers. Good luck!

Self study on Digital Marketing is not a practical idea to learn it in short time. Your efforts needs proper direction. It may happened that due to long time duration your interest of learning digital marketing can be less.

You should rather join go digital marketing course for better understanding of road map of digital marketing. You can join online if you are working and don't have time to go physical and some also offer weekend class.

For better knowledge, it is advisable to take professional guidance.
