Getting Started With Selling On The Internet

Hello all. I'm very new here and want to start a Blog first and then start selling on the internet. Senior person here with some computer experience but shy about internet marketing. So many helpful comments being given I don't know where to even start.

I been reading about affiliated marketing, but I don't have a webpage. And there is so much advice out there that I'm unsure where to start. I have an Ebay account and I may want to start selling a lot of stuff I've accumulated but don't necessarily want to pay their fees.

Some clear, simple advice would be helpful.

Thank you.

Start with this: there's always a cost to doing business - either in time or capital, but usually both.

You mentioned eBay. When you hesitate over the fees, consider that the platform is trawled by millions of potential buyers. You'd have to pay a fortune to get an ad in front of that many people elsewhere. There's a long-standing thread covering just about all aspects of an eBay business here:

Affiliate marketing covers a variety of methods, but boils down to getting the right offer in front of the right market. If your strength is creating engaging content in a particular niche, you might consider the blog approach. If you lean towards a more personal form of communication, a newsletter might be the way to go. Whichever method you choose, begin with a plan for finding and accessing a buying market.

Ever lie awake worrying that you might be the only person who doesn't know what FOMO means?

OK PJWargo, I included Frank's reply and the link to one of the best COURSES online for starting an eBay business, that link, and also the trials and tribulations of Art72 found in the Warrior Path section.

I do have some questions, starting with why the shyness?

If I have got this wrong, please correct, OK? You are an older person with enough computer to get online and on ebay, but probably not into coding, programming or high tech computer stuff, right?

Clear simple advice: read those two threads completely and take notes, cut and paste into a document, and highlight any questions that come up. Between those two threads on ebay, you will find some gold, and see how hard it might be to dig for that gold. As Frank mentioned, TIME and/or MONEY, probably both.

I come at it from a slightly different angle, in your goals. Your REASON for wanting to do this, the WHY of your activities. Affiliate marketing can be very lucrative, and some Warriors here are quite successful, but you will find it was a TIME consuming thing...as a fellow senior, and probably much more senior, I don't suggest doing things which take up that much time.

I prefer to extract whatever gold you might be hoarding in your mind; your experiences, knowledge, skills and life events. You don't become a senior, whatever that means, without a few scars, burns and downturns along the way. All of which represent some form of a STORED VALUE, which if you learn to extract, may save you a lot of time and effort.

As a Warrior, I may be known as Mr. ASSessment, in that I teach, preach and yell from the mountain tops, to assess before action, which goes against many a million or so Warriors perspective.

List out what you know, what you have done, can do, INTERESTS, hobbies, skills, and then where you would like to be in 3 years...in income, place, and then, imagine or write out a statement of how you think, TODAY, you would like to get there. It can be done with affiliate marketing, IF, you find the right tutor or mentor to guide you there. It will be hard to do on your own. But it shouldn't take you (or anyone) more than 3 years to reach an average income goal that an average job provides.

Or, dive in, and we'll catch in another five or so, to set you on the right path.

that was an excellent answer, i never thought about the HOW behind my goals, or even the WHY, i realize i want to turn my production business into passive income, so I'll need to replace myself and hire help,

i'll also need to improve my skills in film, sales, and marketing, as well as build systems,

also, patience is a key right now as things are kind of slow, but due to my own reasons,

thanks! going to sign up for your newsletter now

    Hello PJ!

Lots of people on here are seniors, I am in my sixties,
    welcome to the club.

You want to start a blog. So do millions of other people.

What are you going to blog about and what is going to
differentiate your blog from all the others?

How are you going to get people to read your blog?

eBay. I used to sell on eBay. I started back in the day
when BeanieBabies were the thing. That was in 1998.

I moved onto other things. I sold all sorts of things that
my suppliers could ship directly to my customers.

Back then we didn't even call it dropshipping.

I sold such things as above ground swimming pools
and it was a new idea. After I submitted that first order,
the man in the factory shipping dept was amazed that
I sold a swimming pool to somebody in Connecticut.

Now hundreds of people are selling swimming pools
and there are dozens of places to sell them.

I just saw a television commercial about a lady who
built a homemade soap business on TikTok.

Besides eBay and TikTok, other places that you could
sell are Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, Facebook, X, Discord,
    Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Poshmark, CraigsList,
    and the list goes on.

I suggest that if you plan to sell things online, devise
a plan that works because as a senior, you do not
have a lot of time to experiment with failure and you
need something that will be successful.

Affiliate marketing. I have written about how I started
with affiliate marketing before, I won't bore you with
the details, but there weren't millions of other people
doing it and I was able to make money pretty quickly.

You don't need a website to make money with affiliate
marketing, use some of the places I listed above.

Here's some clear and simple advice of what I would
do if I were starting with internet marketing now.

Read a couple of books about affiliate marketing and
making money online. Also read forums, websites,
    and watch YouTube tutorials.

Get an old fashioned pen and paper, a spiral notebook
would be great. I prefer rollerball but felt tip works well
    also. Use whatever you have.

Then take an inventory of the things you already know
how to do, skills that can be used to make money.

Bear in mind that many people are now using artificial
intelligence to make money online. They are using it to
create content, written as well as images.

Then whenever the mood strikes you and you get over
being shy, begin by doing the easiest things first.

Once you start, keep doing more things and keep doing
something every day, every other day, or however often
you want to do those things until you make money.

The reality is that you might start making money right
away or you might not ever make any money at all.

    It is up to you.

That is it. If you have any questions, please post them
here and somebody will mosey along to help you.

I will now give you an approach that I have learned over the past years from my mentor. He has talked about it a lot, and I believe that it is also one of the best tips to simply get started in your case.

The problem nowadays, as you have already noticed yourself, is that there are so many different pieces of information and so many different suggestions that one doesn't know where to actually begin and, above all, how to.

Therefore, my recommendation would be for you to put this into action and start a blog. And on this blog, you simply document what is currently happening. This means you write about wanting to earn money on the internet and not knowing whether to go towards eBay or affiliate marketing, etc.

So, you simply write about this process and let the world participate in this way.

Because that's what we need, we need people who are honest on the internet, who simply show their way. And you do this once a week, by publishing a new blog post in which you simply tell your story, what has happened to you.

The good thing about it is that you don't have to come up with content, you simply report on what has just happened to you, or what you are thinking about, or what you are researching or learning.

This way, you have the advantage of getting into the habit of doing things instead of just reading or watching things, but you start producing, and that is very important.

And if you accept this advice and follow through, you will realize that suddenly there are some people who can identify with your journey and listen to what you have to report. This is the best starting point to recommend things to your readers that have helped you, such as products, etc., and this way you can gradually achieve your first sales and find your path.

i think having a blog is a great thing, i think u should start writing about giving value and how you can actual give value to them before you if sell to them, and the other main way is building a email list and treat them as a valuable friend just take it in maybe steps, and the third way is creating you tube videos i would write in more depth but in the middle of a meeting

You are spreading yourself too thin by taking on too much at once which is causing confusion .

Focus on blogging and building a community before you venture off into other fields .

Yes i think they key thing is getting started, i was thinking about not many make money say on instagram, unless you have millions of followers this for eg takes 10 years of branding, i think the best way is blogging, as you can start writing by giving value to your readers, and there are so many sites were u can share your blog, and so many forums that have a signature which blog and forum commenting does work, you would need a landing page so they can go on your email list, and learn how to do email marketing is the 2nd way, and the 3rd way is you tube, i hope this helps
