Why so low impressions?

Hello warriors,

i am totaly new to internet marketing, so have lots of questions. I am glad that there is this forum where you can ask.

The question is this. I have an email marketing idea, want to build a list, but first i want to test my idea, if i can profit from it. So i build a landing page and bought traffic to it. But result are dissapointing. Industry is insomnia.

First i set my first Facebook ads campaing for 10 Euros, got reach of 200 (although Facebook promised 900-2.6K) and 8 subscribers. Why reach is so low not as promised? I am unable to see how i can profit from list at such traffic costs. I hoped to get reach >1000 and ~100 subsribers (of course i understand that coversions depend on landng page quality). The question is why reach is so low?

Secondly i tried Google ads. Ran campaign for two days for 5 Euros and got 283 impressions. Again very low reach. This [link removed by moderator] says that " 56% of businesses pay $0.51 - $1.00 per 1000 impressions". But my costs are huge compared to this.

So the question is why i am getting such expensive traffic costs? Right now i dont see how i can build a list from paid traffic. Thanks for the input.
