Why do I need an SSL Certificate for my site?

I am starting a new blog. Mostly coding and stuff. Do I really need a cert for it? If yes how to install it in the wordpress?

Should be a free option through your hosting company. Have a look under the security options.
Yes you need an SSL...google will crawl it as http, but won't rank it. Given that you want eyeballs on your blog, you should get one.

The process shouldn't be difficult and ought to take less than 5 minutes once you've found the means. Try googling "[host name] install ssl". For instance, I use Siteground, and a "Siteground install ssl" search brings me to several results about installing and managing them through the host.

It's a free option of a decent hosting provider. For example, hostingsource and hostroun provide SSL cert in their plans for free.

A lot of hosting provides - like (Edited by Moderator)provides free SSL certificates with its web hosting. These free SSL certificates are automatically installed when you add a domain or subdomain to your hosting plan. They also offer automatic renewal for these certificates.
