My name is Maria, and I'm just getting started in digital marketing and affiliate programs. Right now, I'm exploring different ways to build real, sustainable income online - from SEO and content marketing to forum engagement and organic traffic growth.
I've been reading through some of the threads here, and I really appreciate how much genuine experience and advice this forum has to offer. I want to learn how to do things the right way - not by spamming links, but by providing value and building real connections.
If you could share one tip that helped you grow your first online project (or avoid early mistakes), I'd love to hear it!
Looking forward to learning, contributing, and becoming part of this awesome community.

    Maria,

Welcome to the forum. There are so many different ways to build an online business. Early mistakes for me were not building an email list. Everyone is saying that the money is in the list... Sounds so fault, but learning how to build a list in any niche is best. Well, that is my opinion. But you are doing the correct thing by browsing past threads. There is so much information here from so many talented marketers.

You have to choose the path you want to take. Choose it early and stick with it. Make adjustments along the way as you learn. I think consistency is key. If you work hard enough on whatever business model you choose, you will see success...but it takes work.

Also, look out for those shiny objects making you think the grass is greener on the other side. I had that shinny object syndrome, but I think I've learned my lesson.

Hopefully, other experienced marketers will chime in with other ideas. But for me, not working on building a mailing list was one of my early mistakes. At least I'm doing it now, but I had to learn how to do it the correct way.

Took me some time to understand why it's important to do so...but now I believe I got it. Still learning daily and finding out all I can learn about list building.

    Andrew

      Hi Andrew,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome and for sharing your experience - I really appreciate it!
You're absolutely right about email lists. I've heard many marketers say "the money is in the list", but it makes a lot more sense now that you've explained it from your own journey.

I'm still exploring different models to find

    Welcome Maria.

My first and still in place big problem is perfectionism. There was a very famous marketer many years ago here by the name of John Reese. His claim to fame was to be the first solo marketer to sell a million dollars worth of product in a day (in this space at least.) One thing I learned from him was "get your crap out there!" He wasn't saying to release crappy, junk because even then the internet was full of that. He was saying get a good product ready and start selling it and get over the perfectionistic attitude.*Then* after you get it out there and selling, make improvements over time to make your perfect product. Microsoft Windows (Apple, everyone) starts at version 1.0 and then they fix something, release it and now it's version 1.01. Then version 1.1 and 2.0, etc. But they have the basic good product ready at 1.0 and then grow with it and grow and improve the product at the same time.

When I can follow this, I'm successful in all areas of my life. When I let perfectionism take over, I lose. Every time.

    Mark

      Hi Mark,
That's such a powerful reminder - thank you for sharing it. I can totally relate to the perfectionism trap. I often feel like things need to be "just right" before I can share them, and that usually slows me down.

I really like what you said about version 1.0 - it

Hi Maria, good to have you here!
SEO is useful, but it's not the best starting point. It's slow and unpredictable now.

      Hi!
      Thanks for the warm welcome
I totally get what you mean - SEO can be slow and unpredictable, especially at the beginning. I'm thinking of combining it with some faster traffic sources while still building a foundation for long-term results.

What channels do you personally find most effective right now?

Best early tip I can share: focus on one traffic source until you master it. Jumping between SEO, content, and socials too soon slows everything down.

      Thanks, that's really good advice!
I've noticed that too - it's tempting to jump between different traffic methods, but it usually just spreads your energy too thin. I think I'll focus on mastering one main channel first and then expand gradually.

Which traffic source worked best for you when you were just starting out?

    Welcome!

My first projects happened 25+ years ago, so I didn't have
the problems that we are facing now with the competition
    and oversaturation.

Back then you could make money with just about anything
that you did or tried to sell, because it was you and maybe
two or three other people doing that same thing.

My tip is to learn about whatever type of internet marketing
or online business you intend to pursue.

Learn a tangible marketable skill such as apps or website
development, a skill you can make money with now and in
the future, one you can use yourself or sell as a service.

Use AI as much as possible for images, video, content,
automations, etc. Don't be a stick in the mud who refuses
to use it for some moral reason or because you don't think
AI is smart or it cannot write.

Use it to save time and complete projects. I've developed
hundreds of projects I never could accomplish without AI.

Mistakes are part of the learning process, deal with them
    and carry on.

Thank you for sharing this - that's really insightful!
It's fascinating to hear from someone who's been in the online space for so long. You're absolutely right - things are much more competitive now, so developing a solid, practical skill makes a huge difference.

I've recently started learning web design and experimenting with AI tools for visuals and automation - it's amazing how much faster it makes the creative process. I totally agree that AI shouldn't be ignored - it's a huge advantage when used wisely.

Thanks again for the encouragement and great perspective!

Thanks for the advice! I completely agree - it's easy to get overwhelmed trying to do too much at once. I'm planning to focus on one main strategy for now, really learn it, and scale from there. Appreciate the reminder to pace myself and stay consistent.

Just curious - what niches are you currently working with or interesting in exploring?

Best thing you can do early is pick one niche and focus hard. Too many new marketers spread themselves thin across everything and end up with nothing solid. Consistency beats experiments every time.
