In my last post on 'Barter if you're Broke" I left out the part where I bartered for:
  • Got my rent cut in half
  • Got a printer to make me business cards
  • Got a client to buy me a $300 digital camera

All I did was make them a business blog, used my Warrior learned SEO skills and beat the living crap out of the local Frederick Maryland Competition.

I didn't have money for, or even a credit card to get real webhosting, so I used free blogspot blogs.

All my SEO clients have not only top ten Google rankings for the keywords that will ACTUALLY MAKE THEM MONEY...
My clients have MULTIPLE listings in the s.e.r.p.s
Some have 8 of the top ten.

At the time I was bummin cigarettes, collecting aluminum cans just to scroung up enough change to do my laundry.

Hmm, I did make a Dumpster Diving 4 Instant Cash on a whim a couple years ago.

And I've got to tell ya:

Business Cards really DO make a difference when you have no credibility, no track record.

When you don't even have a car, to have glossy, custom business cards, ones with high resolution .jpegs of your face on them, it gives you a real jump start on credibility.

Also, the card is a kind of 'prop', I see my prospects looking at the card while I make my pitch.

If I had a laptop and wireless Internet connection I could show them what I can do...

The business cards make a big difference!

The first blog I did was centering on this keyword phrase:

Weekly Rate Hotel Frederick

The hotel I live at is kinda like transitional housing- a Rooming house. No lease, No deposit, pay by the week.

It's a nice 1913 Victorian building, that used to be a crack house!

I pitched this to the property manager:
"You're a hotel, more like a rooming house, currently you're competing with the other rooming houses and they're all crack houses, right?"

"What you really want to do is compete against the two chain hotels:

Ecconolodge and Travelodge"

"they charge $30 to $50 a WEEK more and here you offer More, a real kitchen and so on."

"Here me out now... the tenents that come from the local newspaper are broke, alcoholic, lose their jobs often."

"The tenents that come from Google have Good jobs, new cars, their educated and you can even take their checks!"

"What you want to do is "Move Higher Up the Food Chain""
The hotel went for it, my rent got cut in HALF, and I was broke, really broke
