Internet Marketing - Making Sure I Understood who my Target Market Was Going to Be

Target market, are you kidding me? I felt the only thing I needed to do to run a successful small internet marketing business online was get my products or services in front of as many eyes as possible. I figure the more people I can get in front of my products and services the more money I would make. Who cares if they were targeted or not? Who cares whether or not they have the same wants and needs. If you were on the Internet I felt you needed to see what I was offering.
I soon learned the errors of my ways, and my Internet marketing efforts were quickly stymied. I quickly got rid of the false thinking I had concerning the importance of taking my target market seriously. I saw that most of my success in Internet marketing would be dependent upon my ability to select a target market that had the potential to make me money on a consistent basis.
All this required me to do research, which is something I hated to do because I felt it had no real value. But doing careful research allowed me to see where the potential for serious profits in my home Internet based Internet business lay.
I was able to see if other products were being sold to that niche and how much they were being sold for. Once I determined that money was available to be made in a given niche it got rid of any doubts I had about the importance of picking a targeted niche.
Some methods of research I use is the search engines themselves. Just look up some of the top searched topics of the day or week, is there a market trend there you capitalize on. You can also use Twitter, what is your customer base talking about? Are they tweeting about a new book on the Oprah book club and does Amazon sell it, and since your in their affiliate program why not promote it as well?
Google alerts also provides a vast amount of information for your research. Jus set up an alert or to covering your keywords and you’ll get the most current blog posts or news stories about your chosen subject. Internet marketing is about getting to the top of the search engines and staying there, use your tools wisely and research everyday to stay on top.
