Non-programmers and programmers

Programmers shudder when non-programmers say the line...
"Can someone complete task x, it can only be a simple thing that will take 5 minutes to do."
How can one estimate the time taken to do something when one knows nothing about how to do it oneself?
If it is that easy - do it yourself, don't demean peoples craft. The more seasoned a programmer will take much thought over 1 line of code because he/she is thinking of things that you may not!
Moral of this post: respect peoples craft
