How to use Social Media Properly in Internet Marketing or Business!

First thing I have to say is... oh my goodness. I hate this topic as SO MANY PEOPLE JUST HAVE NO IDEA!

I get approached all the time from people trying to get me to sign up to their Network Marketing company. I had one person send "hi" to me in a message recently, I replied "hi" back knowing exactly what was about to happen then she sent her standard copy n pasted message she obviously sends to everyone. It went something like this:

"I want to invite you to something ultra exciting and mega profitable. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you HAVE to join. This is such a once in a lifetime thing and will make you millions if you stick with it. This opportunity is not to be missed!"


She added me from a comment I made on another network marketer's Facebook post so she knew I did Network Marketing already. The issue here was she never even attempted to build any form of relationship or portray value towards me. Instead, all she did was instantly try to recruit me. I basically turned around to her and went:

"You've not built any rapport or a relationship with me! I do not know, like or trust you at all so why do you think I would join your opportunity if all you do is send me over-hyped verbal puke on an IM as one of the first messages?"


An apology would have been the best approach, particularly if this was followed by just a conversation and a focus on relationship building. I probably would have eventually asked about the opportunity she is part of out of curiosity and she may have been able to take things further with me at a later time. Instead, no, she then made the worst reply humanly possible to me:

"The master of Network Marketing wanted to really meet you too. You have no idea on the incredible and exciting opportunity you are missing out on here. This is mega insane. You must be the biggest fool in the world if you don't want to find out more about this!"


I immediately thought to myself, "Seriously? What the Hell?". The follow up to this was her getting angry at me and calling me arrogant as I tried to give her some advice on cold prospecting and I wished her the best of luck. For the record, please don't do what she did!

Anyway, enough of the story... now let's go through how you should be using social media.

Social Media is a great tool for connecting with potential prospects as even the name suggests- it is social. "Social" doesn't mean "Business" as such, instead it means "Social" and to be "Social" is to build relationships and awareness.
