What is all the fuss about Twitter anyway?

I have several twitter accounts for various niches.
I use the main one Pearlydean for Internet Marketing and general blogging work.
If you look at this account you will see (at the time of this post) that I have over 22,000 followers.
Now to get this many followers is quite easy if you know what you are doing. Many of these followers interact with me on a regular basis and this makes the communication worthwhile.
A lot of people I talk to don’t really get what twitter is all about so hopefully I can shed a little light on it and help you to use it better!
If you think of twitter as a short communication medium in the first place rather than as a tool to just make money like a lot of spammy marketers do you won’t go far wrong.
In my opinion just tweeting affiliate links in the hope that soemone will just buy from you is completely innefective and also quite insulting to your followers.
I tweet lots of jokes and quotes throughout the day and night using an API as I can’t stay up 24 hours a day! I like to keep these tweets going all the time as I have lots of followers from all over the world, so if I just stayed within my timezone they wouldn’t be able to tweet back.
I also respond to tweeters using a tool called Tweet Deck. This allows me to view any mentions by my followers so I can thank them for retweeting my jokes or if they are around I can talk to them for a few minutes.
I also send out tweets informing my followers when I have just put a new post on one of my blogs that they may be interested in. This is a great way to build traffic as I also have a free ebook on my main blog for people to download and subscribe to my list.
So if you use twitter in this way you will get more out of it and maybe even form some profitable online relationships!
