I liked your post - I can't agree with you more. Unfortunately, these opportunities are marketed with the sizzle that can be misleading to a newcomer. That's how they attract prospects. As with any worthwhile venture, the more you put in, the more you get. Many times it's the expectations that need a dose of reality.
