Is it a skinny, poor, broke person who happens to be a marketer?

Probably.

Being truthful (novel idea for marketers) haven't we all been on a specific path one time or other, only to be blown of course?

Anyway, have you noticed how almost every list you sign up for and consequently every welcome email you then get from that company or solopreneur, or whatever all more or less say the same thing?
