Bringing Back the Basics

Hey!
I wanted to throw out a short blip about taking things back to the basics.
I think all too often people get wrapped up in not just "shiny objects" but also the tiny details of how to do things. All the techy shortcuts and different ways to do things can sometimes distract from the overall goal.
How often does it happen that you go on youtube or something else to look up a specific thing, and end up somewhere 5 channels and 2 hours later when you realize that you've just been surfing?
I know I've done it and continue to do it.
I've recently been taking myself back to the basics just to help reinforce the basic principles.
I forget who said it but the quote is "repitition is the mother of all skill." So taking myself back to the basics to really set them in stone has been a great way for me re-establish focus and to stay on track.
Simple tasks like getting domains and finishing a site with the initial intended goal seem to sometimes get lost as the site progresses. Theme design, plugins, and other "accessories" sometimes distract away from just getting it done.
Revisiting the basics of IM has been great for me, so I wanted to share it in hopes that maybe it will help some others out too.
It's also kind of fun seeing how differently I think of the basics now as opposed to when I was first learning them.
Sometimes I get the urge to skip a video or article because I get the "I already know..." syndrome.... but I have to catch myself!! Repitition, right?
And out of forcing myself to get over that syndrome I've learned SO much more! People might be teaching the same topic, but teaching it a different way than when I first learned it. Which means they have info that I didn't get at the start.
This realization and the info gathered throughout my basics revisiting has been invaluable!
That's it for now... just wanted to share part of my journey and maybe inspire a few of you to take it back a couple years and start looking back at the basics.
Till next time.
