Getting Clear On Your Purpose

Defining your purpose is one of the greatest accomplishments you can achieve.

A little while back I did a post on having gratitude for the ability to live your life on purpose. I go a lot of people that said that was great but they weren't sure how to find their purpose.
So, before we get into too much here, let me tell you what it was like when I finally realized what my purpose was. It was like getting run over by a semi. It hit and it hit hard. However, it started in a really innocuous way. There is, as you well may know, a big scandal going down surrounding Bill Cosby. For some reason I became obsessed with it. I'm not the type of person to become obsessed, I'm a flake. But, there I was.
As things reached a peak where I was constantly digging for more and more information, I realized that the answer was not going to be found in their story. So, I started asking myself questions. Every time I came up with an answer I asked a deeper question.
I finally got to the point where I understood that my purpose was to use all of the things that had happened in my past to empower women; to get women to actually step into their power.
Why Bill Cosby? When I was 16, back in the early 70's, I was a victim of rape. I reported the crime and spent the next two years in a hell of reliving the nightmare by having to tell it to the police, the detectives, the district attorney and finally in an open court room. On top of that, I was having to defend every move I had made in my life, right down to not being born on the day I was expected. There were so many times that I just wanted to quit. The DA took me aside and she asked me a question that kept me moving forward. "If you quit now because you're scared, what are you going to say to their next victim?"
As I thought back on this conversation, I realized that I was being primed for my purpose. What she told me was that I was responsible for those who came after me.
That's what was bothering me on this Bill Cosby case. Why hadn't any one of these women come forward and said something at the time. Many of them were successful professionals. Any one of them could have put a stop to it. Now, when they stand in a room together what do they say to the victim(s) that came after them? Do they realize that they are responsible?
The true empowerment of the self only comes when you reach out and empower another person.
Now, I had the purpose. I had to go out and do some things that were downright scary from that point on. I had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Let's start on a high note here and look at the benefits of being connected to your purpose
1. It's sexy. Yep, there is actual scientific evidence out there that you actually begin to put out pheromones when you are "on purpose". You are attractive to others because of the energy that you are putting out there.
2. It's profitable. You will find that if you incorporate your purpose into your business you have a more effortless approach to growing it. If your purpose is not attached to your business, you can use it as a vehicle to fund your passion.
3. It saves the world. Okay, not like Wonder Woman or Superman, but you actually shift the momentum of a chaotic world. Instead of the drama affecting you, you put forth a positive energy that calms it. Your attitude and demeanor shift to a more optimistic approach. This all happens even when the world doesn't support you.
4. This is what you were brought into this world to do so live your life and your purpose out loud.
What living on purpose is not
1. It is not working for money and benefits.
2. It is not answering to someone else's whims.
3. It is not about making others happy by sacrificing and playing small.
4. It most definitely is not about playing it safe. Going for security has never won the day.
Connection to your purpose gives you
1. You stop BSing yourself and you actually start to love your life.
2. You begin to recognize and seize opportunities.
3. You start shedding the low life's and start to attract high level people.
4. You start calling your own shots.
Now, for the big HOW
1. Invest time in getting to know yourself. Search your heart and your soul, leave your head out of this.
2. Dive in and learn, act, grow and do.
3. Get a coach or a mentor to help guide you along the path. You need someone with a mile high view.
4. Get support. With MOBE we have an entire community that is willing to support us as we move along the path, but, if you don't have that, make sure that you have friends and family that will stand behind you as you courageously go after your purpose.
5. Believe in yourself and in your purpose. Put it first. Get rid of all of those things and people that just don't serve you. It won't be fun but you will be glad that you did it.
