Affiliate marketing success is not glittery, it is focused, hard work.

J.R.R. Tolkien once wrote, "All that glitters is not gold". It's a great lesson. Yet, I still work with people who are working toward affiliate marketing success who are chasing all of the shiny objects that they can find.

We want to find that easy path that brings in lots of money and results without the daily grind of focused, hard work.

The phrase "shiny object syndrome" originally came from the study of fish. Whenever fish see a shiny object, they go after it. The fish may never even complete going after one shiny object if they see another because they will dart away toward the new one. I don't know about you, but I can identify with those fish at times.

Back in the 1950's scientists determined that an adult had an attention span of 20 minutes. More recent studies show that attention span to be 6-8 seconds. Ready for this, one second less than a goldfish, who sports a 9 second attention span.

If we are going to achieve affiliate marketing success, we have got to commit to being laser focused on what we are doing, who we are, what we are about and commit to doing it to the bitter end.

The problem is not with our skill set. It is not in the amount of money that we have or whether or not we are surrounding ourselves with great people, we can still end up with no results.

We could have somebody come in and dump a million dollars into our account tomorrow and if we are not totally laser focused on where we are going with our business we can fritter that away in no time chasing shiny objects. All that it takes is a great marketers with a great product. The question is, is it what you need?

Crystal clarity

I know, here we go again, you have to be clear on who you are, what your purpose is and why you are doing your affiliate marketing business. This "why" has got to be something bigger than money.

If you don't have this clear vision of what your business is all about you are going to be chasing everything that comes across your path and you may just miss out on that one product, that one person that you have been praying you would find.

We have to be resolute in the vision that we have; so, we have to work on our clarity every single day.

Trust yourself

This is something that the people who are out there excelling in anything have got. They believe that they have everything that it takes to win. They are not looking for accolades from their followers on social media. They don't need to be loved from the outside because they are focused on the vision that they have for themselves and their business.

This is where you need to make sure that you have a support system in place. I have a coach that I work with who understands where I am and where I am going. He has my back and at the same time is willing to smash my rose colored glasses and kick me in the butt to get me moving on the things that I need to do in order to have the success that I want. He points out my strengths and steers me away from my weaknesses. I suggest that everybody have a coach or a mentor like this.

Stay the course to affiliate marketing success

Most of what you do in business, 95% of it as a matter of fact, is not fun. It is boring and tedious. You have got to learn to "embrace the suck" as the Navy Seals say.

If we don't get what we are looking for out of the 5% that is fire, fun and passion, then we are going to succumb to the shiny object syndrome.

Adjust as necessary

This is the doctorate level step. Not everything is going to work the way that it did in your head. You have to take a step back, and make those small adjustments that will make it work and bring you the results that you need to succeed.

Focus is a tough battle. We are constantly being inundated through social media and email. It's hard to stay on point and that can lead us into overlooking the opportunities that will bring us our affiliate marketing success and lead us down the wrong path.

Be sure that you leave us your comments before you go back to focusing on your affiliate marketing success.
