There are times when it seems that you have lost all control over the achievement of your affiliate marketing success.

None of us went into business so that we could suffer the total loss of control that we sometimes feel when we are out their conducting our business. We got in it for the type of affiliate marketing success that has money pouring into our bank accounts from a world turned slot machine while drinking our margaritas on the beach.

I remember when I first started the transmission shop. I was getting my MBA and everybody saying how lucky I was that I owned my own business. I could come and go as I pleased, I could make whatever amount of money that I wanted and I didn't have to answer to anybody. Obviously, they had never owned a small business. You are the first there in the morning. You are the last one there at night. You are the first one to not get paid when times are hard. You get to clean the office and the bathrooms. You have to answer to every customer and vendor that is associated with your business.

So, I looked at affiliate marketing. I bought into the hype, just like those people in my MBA bought into the fantasy of owning your own business.

No matter how you look at it, entrepreneurship is like riding a roller coaster. There are the extreme ups. There are the extreme downs. There are the loops that leave you dangling upside down. And there are the straight ways.
It's no wonder that you can feel that you have lost any control that you ever had over your business.

Try doing affiliate marketing in your 60's. I wasn't raised on a computer. It is this alien thing that sits on my desk and mocks me every minute of every day. I have had to learn to master it in order to have any success in affiliate marketing. It doesn't realize how many times it has come close to death, but we are forging ahead and I am wrestling control away from the infernal box. Overwhelmed by all the new skill sets I am having to learn, you bet.

Ah, but we are entrepreneurs and we still believe in our affiliate marketing success, right?

There is someone who is operating the controls of the roller coaster and you are the one that operating the controls of your business. You may feel disoriented and you may have a queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach, but you are the one in control. You are the only person who can push your business forward.

So, how do you get control over your business again?

Trust yourself and your vision.

When absolutely everything in your business seems to be going south while your vision is somewhere to the north, you have to start to rely on your instincts.

As I said, the computer and I are not yet on friendly terms with each other; however, I do know who I am and what I stand for. I can rely on gut level instinct to tell me how to maneuver myself to affiliate marketing success. It lets me know loud and clear that people need to know who I am and what I stand for in the world and that is exactly what I tell them in all of my marketing.

That little inner genius inside of you can take the lever while you are turned upside down in the loop and have totally lost your bearings. Learn to rely on it.

Otherwise, you are going to find yourself giving into those ideas of going back to a safe harbor where someone else is in control of your life.

It is only your perception of the insecurity and risk that entrepreneurship represents that keeps you from moving toward your destiny.

Allow the situation to correct itself

This year the transmission shop has been really struggling to get onto a firm financial footing. People are opting to buy new cars rather than getting their older ones repaired. Things are coming back to life, however, the hole that was dug is pretty deep. There is no coming back magically.

That's true in everything in life and in business. Things don't get out of control overnight and they aren't going to repair themselves that way either.

Affiliate marketing success, life success, offline business success relies upon you continually taking the actions that you know are necessary to grow without any guarantee of success.

Success, too, is like a roller coaster. The only ones that lose are the ones that get off of the ride.

No affiliate marketing success?

The only advice that I can give anyone after all 25 years of being an entrepreneur is that if you are getting no results and you are headed to the padded room on that exclusive floor of your local hospital is: stay the course and reach out for help.

Get yourself a coach or a mentor. Find a friend that will support you through the hard times. Look for someone that can see things from an outsiders viewpoint, someone who is not personally caught up in the situation and get their opinion and their guidance.

Since becoming an entrepreneur, I don't ride roller coasters anymore. I am getting all of the excitement that I need from working toward my affiliate marketing success. Enjoy the ride and I'll see you at the top!
